The developers of Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve recently showed off gameplay footage, beginning with a mission over Rocky Island. The Joker squadron’s strategy involves flying undetected and then surprising the enemy over the ocean. However, this fight is particularly dangerous because of a powerful new superweapon.
Superweapons are large, heavily armored ships with multiple weak points you need to destroy – and it’s a tough fight! Luckily, you’ll have wingmen providing backup and covering fire. The latest update, Wings of Theve, also improves the experience by making superweapons vulnerable even when you don’t hit those weak points directly, reducing the penalty for missed shots.
When enemy planes are destroyed, they’ll now cause damage to surrounding targets, making aerial combat more strategic. It’s worth noting that not all powerful weapons are created equal. Later on, your squad will encounter a massive destroyer that can only be defeated by dropping skyscrapers onto it.
The game features established progression systems, like unlocking new planes by completing missions and earning in-game currency. You can also heavily customize your aircraft, changing parts and equipping different weapons to suit each mission’s needs.
Okay, so Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is finally dropping on October 2nd! It’s coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. And get this – if you pre-order, you don’t just get the new game, you also get a free version of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War! Plus, you’ll snag the F-14A aircraft as a bonus. Pretty sweet deal if you’re a fan like me.
