After Kagurabachi Anime, Shonen Jump’s New Fantasy Will Be The Biggest Hit

Fans of the manga Kagurabachi have been eagerly awaiting news, and an anime adaptation has finally been announced! The series, created by Takeru Hokazono, launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023 and quickly became popular, going viral after just one chapter. By October 2025, over 3 million copies had been circulated, and sales are still rapidly growing. While the manga is a hit, it remains to be seen if the anime will be equally successful.

Though Kagurabachi recently got an anime, fans are still waiting for more of Ichi the Witch. This manga, created by Osamu Nishi and Shiro Usazaki, launched in September 2024 and has already become incredibly popular, selling over 1.8 million copies. Currently, eight volumes have been released in Japan, but only two are available in English. Volume 3’s English translation is scheduled to arrive on June 2nd, 2026. Given the manga’s quick success, an anime adaptation seems very likely.

What is the Plot of Ichi the Witch?

I’m completely hooked on this incredible story! It takes place in a fantastical world brimming with these awesome, but dangerous, creatures called Majiks. For ages, Witches have been the only ones who could hunt them and take their magic – or so everyone believes. The story centers around Ichi, a young guy who lives a solitary life on Druid Mountain, surviving by his hunting skills. He has a really tough backstory – abandoned as a baby and left to fend for himself, but he managed to not only survive but become incredibly skilled at hunting. It’s a really compelling setup!

He’s unaware that a deadly creature is hiding in his house—a creature that no woman can harm. This powerful being, known as Majik, is a threat to everyone, and the local witches are powerless to stop it. Unexpectedly, Ichi uses his hunting abilities to intervene and save the people.

Having triumphed over the Majik, he becomes history’s first known male witch. The story follows his fight against the traditional idea that only women can wield magic. During his journey, he faces numerous obstacles and enemies, including the formidable King Uroro – a being consumed by hatred and responsible for widespread devastation.

Ichi the Witch Stands Out Among The Other Shonen Jump Series

What really makes Ichi the Witch different from many other shonen manga is how it handles its female characters. Instead of falling back on tired, old stereotypes, the story gives them complex personalities, lets them be self-reliant, and importantly, makes them crucial to the plot.

Unlike many stories where side characters play supporting roles, this one features a protagonist who collaborates with powerful allies to overcome challenges. The story gives Ichi enough focus to establish him as the main character, but also shines a light on the witches who fight alongside him and provide crucial support.
