More layoffs are hitting the gaming world, and it appears Survios, the VR studio behind the game Rogue Incursion, may be closing down after significantly reducing its staff.
GameDeveloper reported that Dylan Ralston, a combat designer at Survios, announced on LinkedIn that the company is closing down and the entire development team, including himself, is being laid off. He described Survios as a great place to work that provided important stability for his family during a difficult time, both personally and for the gaming industry.
Senior game designer Alissa Smith, like most of the development team, was affected. She had worked at the company for three years and was proud to have contributed to the release of Alien: Rogue Incursion on VR platforms, as well as the standard and console versions.
Hey everyone, just wanted to share that today’s the day I’m posting about losing my job as a senior technical sound designer. It’s a bummer, and I’m really thinking of everyone at Survios. Honestly, I kind of saw this coming. I’m planning to take some time to figure out where I want to go next in the games industry. Gaming is still my biggest passion, it always will be, but the last few years have definitely made me rethink things and where I fit in.
This comes as a surprise, especially right after plans were announced to bring Rogue Incursion to the Switch 2, with a sequel intended to pick up the story right where the first game left off. Unfortunately, if reports are correct about Survios closing down, it seems we may never find out what happens to the character Zula – or see the promised PlayStation 4 version – after all.
Honestly, it’d be a real bummer if Rogue Incursion: Part One just disappeared. I actually had a lot of fun with it when it was at its best, and overall it was a pretty solid experience. Survios hasn’t said anything official about what’s happening with it yet, but I’m keeping an eye out for any news, so I’ll let you know if I hear anything.
