The Predator series is experiencing a revival, largely due to recent films by Dan Trachtenberg. Movies like Prey (2022), Predator: Killer of Killers, and Predator: Badlands have expanded on the history and culture of the Predator race – known as the Yautja – while also connecting and clarifying storylines from earlier Predator films.
With the Predator movies now feeling more connected as a single universe, it’s easier to discuss and compare them. Thanks to the recent films by Trachtenberg and Shane Black, we know there’s more than one type of Yautja – there are at least two distinct races divided into different clans, like the Jungle and Desert clans. Each clan has its own ranking system. Some Yautja are even stronger or have been specifically created to be better hunters. There are also smaller, more isolated tribes, like the Warlord’s Clan, Lost Tribe, or Njohrr’s Clan, who have their own unique traditions. These differences in strength and customs are important when deciding which Predator movies are the best.
Here’s a list of all 16 Predators from the Predator movies, ranked from strongest to weakest. Let us know if you think the order is accurate!
16. Crucified Predator (Predators)

The most pathetic Predator has to be the one used as a literal punching bag in the movie Predators (2010). This classic Jungle Clan Yautja is chained up and humiliated by the more advanced “Super Predators” on their hunting planet. Known as the “Crucified Predator,” he doesn’t get a chance to prove himself; he’s quickly freed only to be brutally killed by the Super Predator leader, the “Berserker.” Within Yautja society, this Predator is considered a disgrace.
15. Jungle Hunter (Predator)

The first Predator in the series was a hunter from the Jungle Clan who enjoyed stalking and killing Special Forces soldiers in a dangerous, 1980s jungle on Earth. This original Yautja usually eliminated its victims quietly and in individual fights, until it was defeated by Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a resourceful soldier armed only with his skills and the surrounding environment. The Yautja didn’t consider this a worthy display of strength.
14. The City Hunter (Predator 2)

Among the Yautja (often called Predators) are various subgroups. Some, known as “Bad Bloods,” have mixed their DNA through breeding with other species. Others are “Lost Tribes” – groups that left the Yautja homeworld and established their own separate communities. The movie Predator 2 features a Lost Tribe that secretly settled in Los Angeles in the 1990s, hiding their spaceship under the city. One member of this tribe becomes a hunter and the film’s villain, referred to as the “City Hunter.”
The City Hunter’s specific clan was never identified, but he looked very similar to the first Predator in size and style. It’s notable he died fighting a human with one of his own weapons, and the Lost Tribe’s ship displayed trophies proving they’d defeated dangerous creatures like xenomorphs and other powerful aliens – that’s an impressive record.
13. Feral Predator (Prey)

The Feral Predator was a highly skilled hunter and fighter. However, compared to other members of his species, he wasn’t considered one of the strongest. He hunted in 1719 with basic tools, while others from his clan – those seen hunting in eras like the Viking Age, Feudal Japan, and World War II – had much more advanced technology and were generally more powerful and clever. Ultimately, the Feral Predator was defeated by a surprisingly resourceful hunter named Naru, who managed to turn his own weapon against him.
12. Falconer Predator (Predators)

Super Predators are a more powerful and larger type of Yautja, distinct from the common Jungle Yautja. The movie Predators introduced three of them. One, known as the “Berserker,” was the clear leader and most skilled hunter. However, according to the established backstory, his two companions were likely lower-ranking hunters, possibly undergoing a trial by hunting challenging targets on the Game Preserve Planet. Another, the Falconer Predator, used a drone to scout from above. While interesting, the Falconer was ultimately defeated in a duel with Changchien, a Yakuza member, making him the weakest of the three.
11. Tracker Predator (Predators)

The Tracker was a particularly skilled Predator, specializing in hunting down prey, and he even used trained creatures similar to dogs to help him. He was such a dangerous hunter that Noland (Laurence Fishburne), a human who had survived on the Game Preserve Planet for years, had to completely structure his life around staying hidden from him. While the Tracker was successfully eliminating the other dangerous killers stranded on the planet, he was caught off guard when Nikolai (Oleg Taktarov), a Russian soldier, sacrificed himself – and the Tracker – in an explosion.
10. WWII Pilot Predator (Predator: Killer of Killers)

The Warlord Clan is a small, unusual group within the larger Desert Clan of Yautja. Unlike other Yautja clans, they’ve largely rejected traditional hunting practices. Instead of respecting a hunter who defeats them – a common custom – the Warlords capture these victorious opponents and put them into frozen storage. They then revive these skilled hunters for special events and tournaments, using them as challenges to test their own abilities against the galaxy’s deadliest warriors. This practice has made the Warlord Clan one of the strongest Yautja groups.
This Yautja, nicknamed the “WWII Predator,” was once a skilled hunter, but injuries, including the loss of an eye, forced him to change his ways. He became an exceptional pilot, turning aerial combat into his new hunting ground. While he dominated the skies during World War II, it’s hard to judge his skill compared to other Yautja because his ship did most of the fighting.
9. Berserker Predator (Predators)

The Berserker was the most powerful Predator in the hunting group on the Game Preserve Planet, proving his strength by easily defeating and killing the Crucified Predator. He lasted longer than any other Predator, killed more prey, and was a particularly clever hunter. However, human mercenary Royce ultimately proved more brutal and resourceful. Royce cleverly used one of his teammates as bait to injure the Berserker, then finished him off. The Predators were shocked that a human could be so merciless.
8. Fugitive Predator (The Predator)

The backstory of the Predator movies gets complicated with the introduction of hybrids. One example, the Fugitive Predator, was a mix of Yautja and human who came to Earth in the 2010s with the surprising goal of helping humans fight off other Yautja hunters. These hybrids were designed to be stronger than regular Yautja, as the whole point of creating them was to improve the Yautja species. Interestingly, the “Upgrade Predator” was specifically bred to be powerful, fast, and intelligent enough to track down and eliminate the Fugitive Predator, making him a unique and important target.
7. Kwei (Predator: Badlands)

Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator films often feature the Desert Clans of the Yautja, but Predator: Badlands uniquely centered the story on an independent clan. The film tells a tragic family story reminiscent of Shakespeare, where Dek, the seemingly weakest member of a powerful royal family, is exiled by his father and must earn his place before seeking revenge. The conflict begins when Dek’s older brother, Kwei – a highly skilled hunter – sacrifices himself to save Dek during a duel with their father. Kwei was an exceptional hunter from a prestigious clan, and based on his family, we can confidently place him high on a ranking, even though he appears on screen for a shorter time than other Yautja characters.
6. Grendel Predator

The creature known as “Grendel” got its name from Viking warriors (under the leadership of Ursa) who, during 9th-century raids in Scandinavia, believed it to be a legendary monster. Grendel was a powerfully built and strong Yautja—a hunter—who unusually chose to fight without much armor, preferring direct, brutal close combat. This “close combat” was unique because Grendel had a prosthetic right arm equipped with a powerful sonic weapon, capable of delivering devastating concussive blasts. Unlike most Yautja who hunted for sport, Grendel was a true fighter, eager to engage in combat simply for the thrill of it.
5. Oni Predator (Predator: Killer of Killers)

The Oni Predator was a highly skilled, ninja-like hunter from the Warlord Clan who traveled to 17th-century Japan. He’s one of the most terrifying Predators in the series, known for his incredible speed and combat abilities. He was so formidable that even two of the era’s greatest ninja, Kenji and his commander Kiyoshi, couldn’t defeat him in a fight.
4. Njohrr (Predator: Badlands)

Dek and Kwei’s father was more than just a skilled hunter – he was a leader who founded his own clan. He blended traditions from both Jungle and Desert Yautja cultures, and added his own rules, such as requiring young hunters to earn cloaking devices through a challenging hunt. Njohrr was exceptionally strong and capable, as that’s what it takes to gain and maintain power within Yautja society. To not only gain power, but also establish new customs and laws, requires incredible strength of will and force, making Njohrr one of the most powerful characters in the Predator series.
3. Upgrade Predator (The Predator)

The Upgrade Predator was designed to hunt and eliminate other Predators, making it incredibly powerful – so much so that the Fugitive Predator tried to give humans advanced weapons to fight it. Everything about the Upgrade Predator – its weapons, equipment, and natural skills – was far superior to a standard Predator. If Quinn McKenna and his team hadn’t defeated it using its own technology, they likely wouldn’t have stood a chance.
2. Dek (Predator: Badlands)

Dek was initially considered weak within his father Njorhrr’s clan, but he defied expectations. He not only survived Genna, a notoriously deadly planet, but also defeated the seemingly invincible Kalisk creature and an entire army of synthetic soldiers from Weyland-Yutani. Even if those accomplishments weren’t enough to prove his strength, his victory over his father, Njorhrr, in a duel certainly did. What truly sets Dek apart is that his power came not just from brute force, but from adapting, growing, and embracing a life beyond the rigid, traditional beliefs of the Yautja.
1. The Grendel King (Predator: Killer of Killers)

The Grendel King is the primary antagonist in Predator: Killer of Killers and the leader of the Warlord Clan. He’s at the top of this list for good reason: he’s one of the biggest and most intimidating Predators we’ve encountered. He commands a particularly brutal clan—possibly the fiercest ever seen—and constantly has to demonstrate his power by fighting challengers from across the galaxy who have already defeated other Predators. Currently, the Grendel King remains undefeated, and it’s hard to imagine anyone capable of beating him.
