Anna Wintour is getting meticulous about the Met.
Just before the 2026 Met Gala, Vogue’s top editor – who has guided the event for more than three decades – revealed what she’s been thinking about as she prepares.
In an exclusive interview with TopMob News at the King’s Trust Gala in New York on April 29th, she revealed that she’s currently spending much of her time working on seating arrangements.
The 76-year-old isn’t planning the event on her own. She’s being helped by the evening’s co-chairs, including Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Beyoncé, who will be attending the Metropolitan Museum of Art benefit again after a ten-year absence.
Nicole has been a frequent guest at the event for several years, and is now returning as a co-chair – a role she hasn’t held for over two decades.
Nicole recently shared her excitement about co-chairing the event for what she believes is the third time. Having previously helped host in 2003 and 2005, she expressed how happy she is to be involved again during an appearance on the podcast Las Culturistas last month.
As a longtime fan, I was so excited to hear that Nicole Kidman is bringing her oldest teenager as her date! It’s wonderful to know she’s thrilled about sharing the experience with one of her four children – Bella and Conor, who she shares with Tom Cruise, and Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret with Keith Urban. It just seems like a really special moment for her.
She mused that Sunday, who has recently begun her modeling career, “loves fashion.”
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced that Lauren Sánchez-Bezos and Jeff Bezos will be official sponsors of their upcoming gala.

When Amazon’s founder and the former journalists were announced as participants, Anna released a statement saying they would be a great addition to both the museum and the event.
Oh my gosh, you guys, I was reading CNN and Anna actually said something about Lauren! She said they’re SO thankful for Lauren’s amazing generosity and are just over the moon to have her involved with the event! I seriously squealed when I saw it. It’s just… everything!
Anna’s thankfully finished the most challenging part of planning the Met Gala – the invitations are already out! She’s also made it clear she doesn’t control what celebrities choose to wear on the red carpet.
People often reach out to us for guidance,” she explained on Good Morning America last year. “We do our best to help when we can, but sometimes we’re completely stumped.”

Kim Kardashian made a huge impression at the 2021 Met Gala with a surprising all-black outfit that completely covered her face. The custom look was created by Demna Gvasalia, the designer behind the Balenciaga brand. Surprisingly, Kim couldn’t actually see through the outfit!
During a November 2021 interview, Kris Jenner shared that Kim had trouble breathing and couldn’t see throughout the Met Ball. Her boyfriend, Corey Gamble, stepped in to help, guiding Kim around and even fixing her ponytail. He was essentially her guide and hairstylist all in one.

As a huge fan, I was absolutely blown away by Lil Nas X at the 2021 Met Gala! He really gave us everything with those outfit changes. I’m still obsessed with that incredible Versace suit – it was like actual gold armor and honestly left me starstruck. It was such a moment!

As a huge Rihanna fan, I’m not surprised she’s always recognized for her amazing style! But nothing compared to the excitement when she and A$AP Rocky finally arrived at the 2021 Met Gala. Seriously, the whole Rihanna Navy lost it! They were one of the last couples to walk the carpet, and honestly, they completely stole the show – it was such a cute and memorable moment, everyone stopped to watch them!

In 1996, just a year before her tragic death, Princess Diana made her one and only appearance at the Met Gala. Her dress, a navy satin slip designed by John Galliano for Dior, sparked some controversy. While some thought it was too revealing for the event, and she briefly considered a more conservative option out of concern for her son, Prince William, the gown quickly became a fashion icon.
As of 2024, Princess of Wales and Princess Beatrice are the only British royals who have gone to the Met Gala. However, many expect Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to attend in the future.

Every time Rihanna arrives at the Met Gala, she creates an iconic fashion moment. She consistently delivers unforgettable looks and sets a new standard.

The 2014 Met Gala is remembered for a now-famous elevator incident involving Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Solange Knowles. Security footage leaked, showing Solange physically attacking Jay-Z while Beyoncé stood by. The usually private family quickly released a statement saying they were still a close-knit family, addressing the widespread public interest in the event.
We may never know the full story behind the incident, but Beyoncé seemed to reference it in her remix of “Flawless,” rapping, “Things sometimes happen when a lot of money is involved, like when you’re on an elevator with a billion dollars.”

Fans remember Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston first sparking a connection at the 2016 Met Gala, where they danced together. Shortly after, Swift ended her relationship with Calvin Harris and quickly began a fast-moving summer romance with Hiddleston.

As a longtime observer of style and events, I remember when George and Amal Clooney first graced the Met Gala as a married couple back in 2015 – it was a real moment! And then, just a few years later in 2018, Amal stepped up to co-chair the entire event, which was fantastic to see. She really embraced the world of fashion and the gala’s significance.

Only a week after Beyoncé released her album Lemonade – which hinted at problems in her marriage to Jay-Z – she attended the 2016 event without him, causing a huge reaction from her fans. Luckily, she wasn’t completely alone, as her sister Solange was there to support her, and notably wore a lemon-yellow outfit.

Kim Kardashian will always remember her first Met Gala in 2013. She arrived with Kanye West wearing a striking floral gown by Givenchy. A month later, she gave birth to her daughter, North West. Two years after that, Kim playfully revisited the look, wearing the same floral dress as a Halloween costume, and shared a photo with the caption, “Still fits…”

At the 2006 Met Gala, celebrating British fashion, Sarah Jessica Parker and the late Alexander McQueen both wore matching tartan outfits, creating a rebellious and striking look.

Everyone knows a picture can tell a story, and this one is particularly special. It shows Jeremy Scott between his dates to the 2016 Met Gala, Nicki Minaj and Demi Lovato. After Demi Lovato publicly suggested that Nicki Minaj had been subtly critical of her on Instagram, she hinted at the uncomfortable situation in an interview with Billboard, recalling a disappointing night from two years earlier. She didn’t mention names, but the reference was clear.
She remembered in 2018 having a really bad experience with a certain celebrity, describing them as unpleasant and difficult to be around. She also said the environment felt very exclusive and unfriendly.

Anna Wintour famously tried to maintain an air of exclusivity at the Met Gala, and in 2015, she banned selfies to do so. It felt a bit like she was asking, ‘Is this a red carpet event, or a social media moment?’
Two years later, Kylie Jenner and her friends secretly snapped a photo in the bathroom. It was a memorable moment – a classic picture that will last forever, even though it likely wasn’t taken with a Kodak camera.

In 2018, Madonna delivered a memorable performance of “Like a Prayer” as she descended the stairs of the Great Hall. She also sang Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” The performance perfectly matched the event’s theme that year, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” and felt like a true stairway to heaven.

Bella Hadid turned heads at the 2017 Met Gala with a striking outfit, and managed a potentially uncomfortable encounter with her ex, The Weeknd, and his date, Selena Gomez, with grace. Sources say she intentionally kept her distance from them throughout the night. Interestingly, Bella and The Weeknd later rekindled their romance, but eventually split up again.

Jaden Smith is known for his bold fashion choices, and he first gained attention for this at the 2017 Met Gala when he carried his recently cut dreadlocks as an accessory. This unexpected choice sparked a bit of a trend for the artist, who continued to make memorable statements at the event – in 2018, he brought the gold plaque celebrating his hit song “Icon” as his companion.

Claire Danes made a stunning entrance at the 2016 Met Gala wearing a light blue ball gown that looked like something a modern Disney princess would wear. The dress, designed by Zac Posen, was actually covered in thousands of tiny L.E.D. lights, and it lit up the dance floor as she moved.

Lady Gaga completely understood and mastered the ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ theme at the 2019 Met Gala. Her arrival in a huge, bright pink gown by Brandon Maxwell was just the first surprise. She revealed multiple outfits, layer by layer, eventually performing in glamorous lingerie, leaving the audience stunned and cheering.
