Okay, so ARC Raiders is dropping on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S super soon, and I’m still hooked on THE FINALS. It turns out the folks at Embark Studios aren’t stopping there! I just read an interview with their CEO, Patrick Soderlund, where he said they’ve got a bunch of other games in the works that they haven’t even shown us yet. He also talked about how tough it is to make live-service games – apparently, they’re pretty risky!
When Christopher Dring asked if Embark Studios’ other projects would also be online games, Soderlund explained that creating online games is central to the studio’s identity, acknowledging the challenges of that market. However, he clarified that not all their games will be like THE FINALS or ARC Raiders. One concept is grittier and more intense than those titles, while another is more traditional.
Later in the interview, Soderlund discussed Embark Studios’ five-year vision. He explained that they aim to create a company known for valuing curiosity and deeply respecting its players.
We don’t plan to make Embark a huge studio; that’s not our aim. We hope people see us as a studio driven by curiosity – always questioning and exploring new ideas. Ultimately, we want to be known for positively impacting the gaming industry by treating our players with the utmost respect, constantly listening to their feedback, and using it to improve our games.
This week, Embark Studios started building excitement for the upcoming launch of ARC Raiders with a new trailer. The trailer didn’t show a lot of actual gameplay, but instead highlighted the game’s overall feel and the core gameplay mechanic where players often restart after dying during a mission. It also revealed the largest ARC enemy yet – even bigger than The Queen, which players encountered during the Server Slam event.
The recent Server Slam for ARC Raiders was a big hit! The developer, Embark Studios, announced that the event reached a peak of nearly 190,000 players on Steam. During the event, players completed 30 million rounds, defeated 77 Queens, and collected over 816,000 rubber ducks!
