Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced – 16 More Brand New Details

The highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been officially unveiled, and the extent of changes, improvements, and new content is truly remarkable. The recent global reveal event and subsequent announcements have generated a lot of excitement. Let’s take a closer look at everything new, starting with an important note from the developers.

Not an RPG

While adding RPG elements helped Assassin’s Creed become even more popular, some players didn’t like all the extra stats and collectible items. When rumors suggested the new Resynced game might follow the same path, the game’s director, Richard Knight, assured players that wouldn’t happen. He confirmed Resynced will be a single-player story focused on the character and exploration, not a role-playing game with stats and leveling up. The emphasis will be on how players interact with the world and experience the story.

RTGI, PBR, and Modern Water Rendering

The team has now officially confirmed the addition of ray-traced lighting and reflections, significantly improving the visuals. They’ve also upgraded the rendering technology and completely revamped the water physics. The result is a much more realistic and visually impressive experience compared to the original.

Kenway’s Trading Company

If you enjoyed collecting ships and building a pirate empire in the original game, you’ll love what’s new in Resynced. You can now use Kenway’s Fleet to participate in special events and trade for a steady income, all managed from Edward’s cabin. What used to be a fun extra is now a complete side activity, and gives you even more reason to capture ships instead of sinking them.

Quick-Fire Tools and the Demolitionist

Okay, so people are talking about how the fighting feels different now, with more emphasis on parrying, but honestly, it looks really smooth and fast-paced! What’s really grabbed my attention is the rope dart and pistol – they seem like you can fire them off super quickly, which means you can mix them into your attacks a lot easier, or just react to enemies faster. They’ve also teased a new enemy called the Demolitionist, and I’m betting it’s going to involve a lot of explosions – just a feeling I have!

Shadows Affect Visibility

The developers of Black Flag Resynced are bringing back popular features from past Assassin’s Creed games, including elements from Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Players can now crouch to be more stealthy, and staying in dark areas helps them remain hidden – a feature fans have wanted for a long time. It’s a welcome addition to the game, and it’s great to see it included in this remake.

Dive Anywhere

The game now features much more extensive underwater exploration, and you’re free to dive in almost any location. While it’s still early to tell exactly how this will change deep-sea diving opportunities, it does open up new ways to approach missions – like sneaking onto ships or exploring coastal areas, giving you even more choices in how you play.

Shrapnel Barrels and 8-Pounders

It’s amazing that every weapon on the Jackdaw can be used in multiple ways, and now there are even more options with the addition of shrapnel barrels and 8-pounder cannons. The shrapnel barrels are perfect for damaging enemy sails, and the 8-pounders can pierce hulls, creating extra openings for attacks. After all, a little firepower is a great way to start a negotiation.

Faction-Specific Weapons on Ships

If you found naval battles repetitive, you’ll be pleased to know things have changed. Ships and the groups that control them have been updated, and their equipment will vary based on who they’re allied with. This means more diverse battles at sea, and you’ll be able to tell what weapons a ship carries just by looking at it.

More Jackdaw Customization Options

For many players, the Jackdaw feels like a second home after spending so much time sailing with it. The Resynced update lets you personalize it even further with new customization options and skins. Plus, you can now have a pet – like a cat or monkey – accompany you on your adventures. It would be amazing if they even had their own pirate-themed accessories!

Objects Reacting to Weather

The weather effects in Resynced are incredibly realistic, going beyond just impressive storms and waves. The game’s Atmos system makes everything in the environment respond naturally – from billowing sails and swinging signs to even small details like coconuts falling from trees. And based on how it’s used in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, this is only a glimpse of the amazing level of detail players can expect.

Additional Missions and New Scenes for Edward

Beyond new characters and storylines for existing ones like Blackbeard and Stede, the update will add more missions and scenes for Edward Kenway. One confirmed addition focuses on his wife, Caroline, and was written by Darby McDevitt, known for his work on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and the upcoming Codename Hexe. This could also tie into the new ‘modern-day’ elements. Ultimately, players can expect a deeper exploration of Edward Kenway’s story and motivations.

PC Requirements

Let’s look at the system requirements. To play the game at 1080p resolution with 30 frames per second on Low settings and standard ray tracing, you’ll need at least an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660, AMD Radeon RX5500XT, or Intel ARC A580 graphics card. For 1080p at 60 FPS with Medium settings and standard ray tracing, you’ll need a Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 3600, paired with an RTX 3060, Radeon RX6600XT, or ARC B580. If you’re aiming for 1440p resolution at 60 FPS with High settings and standard ray tracing, you’ll need a Core i5-11600K or Ryzen 5 5600X, along with an RTX 3080 or Radeon RX6800XT.

To achieve 4K gaming at 60 frames per second with the highest settings and advanced ray tracing, you’ll need a powerful processor like the Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D, paired with a high-end graphics card such as the NVIDIA RTX 4090 or AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX. Fortunately, 16GB of RAM is sufficient for all setups, and the game requires around 65GB of storage – an SSD is essential. However, keep in mind that the performance numbers presented assume ray tracing is enabled and that upscaling technologies are being used to help maintain smooth frame rates – specifically, Quality mode for Ultra settings and Balanced mode for other settings.

Console Graphics Modes

Players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will be able to choose from three graphics settings: Performance, Fidelity, and Balanced. Performance mode aims for a smooth 60 frames per second, while Fidelity offers a more detailed visual experience at 30 FPS. Balanced mode tries to strike a middle ground at 40 FPS, but requires a 120Hz display to take full advantage. What’s really noteworthy is that all three modes include RTGI, and Fidelity mode adds ray-traced reflections for even more realistic visuals. No matter which setting you choose, the game promises to look fantastic on consoles, though we’ll have to test it to see how well it actually runs.

PS5-Exclusive Features

Playing on the PS5 offers some great extras. You’ll feel the waves crashing against your ship, the Jackdaw, with realistic vibrations, from gentle rocking to powerful impacts – thanks to the haptic feedback. The adaptive triggers make each gunshot feel impactful, and with Tempest 3D Audio, you’ll be even more fully immersed in the game.

PS5 Pro Support

For console gamers wanting the best possible graphics, the PS5 Pro seems like the leading option, despite its $900 price tag. It offers improved visuals with new rendering features and will launch with PSSR 2.0, further enhancing image quality.

Price

The game will cost $60 for the Standard Edition on all platforms. If you pre-order, you’ll also receive a special Crimson Outfit, Sword, and Pistol, each with a unique bonus. For $70, you can get the Deluxe Edition, which includes the Master Assassin Character and Naval Packs. The Master Assassin pack adds a sword, pistol, trinket, and a striking black and gold outfit. The Naval Pack focuses on customizing your ship, the Jackdaw, with a unique pet, wheel, figurehead, crew attire, and other cosmetic items.
