After the official trailer for Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced was released in April 2026, more information about the game has come to light. The footage confirms that this is a complete remake of the 2013 original, not just a remaster or update. The remake is incorporating years of fan feedback to reimagine the beloved Assassin’s Creed title for today’s players.
Many fans consider Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag to be a standout title in the Assassin’s Creed series and one of the best pirate games ever made – a standard that Skull and Bones hasn’t quite reached. Set in the Caribbean during the early 1700s, the game blends historical details with exciting pirate adventures. A new remake, Resynced, aims to significantly improve the game’s visuals and overall experience. The developers are using Ubisoft’s Anvil engine – a technology established in 2023 – to give Black Flag a modern, upgraded look.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Introduces Several Gameplay Changes From The Original Game

While newer Assassin’s Creed games like AC: Mirage and AC: Shadows have shown graphical improvements over the original Black Flag, the biggest changes in AC: Black Flag Resynced are to the gameplay. Combat has been completely reworked, making the main character, Edward Kenway, much faster and more agile during fights. The developers have also made sure to avoid turning Black Flag into an RPG like the more recent games, addressing fan worries and staying true to the original game’s style.
Combat is now more complex than in Black Flag. Players can use parries and other techniques, and enemies are harder to defeat, pushing you to experiment with different weapons and strategies. While you can’t quite steamroll opponents like before, this makes fights more engaging and maintains the feeling of being a powerful assassin, especially with the option for quick, stealthy takedowns.
The combat improvements extend to the naval battles in Black Flag Resynced, making the ship-to-ship fights even more engaging. On land, the gameplay has been improved with features like a toggleable crouch, allowing for better stealth – Edward can now quickly duck out of sight instead of slowly creeping through bushes. The parkour system has also been streamlined, with more responsive movements making free-running feel much smoother and more enjoyable than in the original game.
Edward Kenway’s Story Has Been Expanded & Reduced For A Clearer Narrative Experience

Players often disliked the modern-day sections in the original Black Flag. For Resynced, the developers are mostly removing those elements – the Animus and Abstergo Entertainment – and will likely include just a few subtle references. To make up for this, they’re significantly expanding Edward Kenway’s story with new quests, aiming to give his journey a more satisfying conclusion. Several important characters from Black Flag will also receive additional content in the remake.
The Black Flag Resynced remake is adding more depth to the characters aboard the Jackdaw, like Edward “Blackbeard” Thatch and Steve Bonnet. Players will now be able to build stronger relationships with them, unlocking new story elements and crew interactions. The remake also introduces three brand-new characters, giving Edward Kenway a full crew to connect with. While the popular Freedom Cry DLC won’t be part of Resynced, these new bonds will enhance the Jackdaw’s capabilities, giving players more strategic options while sailing.
New Characters With Larger Roles Could Make Resynced The Most Compelling Assassin’s Creed In Years

I’m really excited about the characters they’re adding to AC: Black Flag Resynced! We’ve got Lucy Baldwin, The Padre, and Tobias “Dead Man” Smith, and each one has a specific job on your ship. What’s really cool is how much these characters change the way the Jackdaw handles and fights – it’s a huge difference depending on who you assign to what role, and they’ve made naval combat even more detailed in this remake. Plus, you can even get a pet for your ship! It sounds like the Jackdaw is going to feel way more alive and full of personality than ever before.
The remake makes it easier to enjoy new characters and side missions by getting rid of frustrating gameplay elements like the old-style tracking missions on land and at sea. In previous Assassin’s Creed games, constantly following enemies without being detected was often a weak point. Thankfully, later games moved away from punishing players for losing targets, and Black Flag Resynced is now following that same design philosophy as AC: Shadows, which will please many longtime fans.
Offering different approaches to missions should make the personal side quests in the game much more interesting and rewarding. We hope the gameplay improvements in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced address previous fan feedback and create a smoother, more accessible experience for both returning players and newcomers.
