Although the Caribbean Sea in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is the same size as before, players will find more to explore on both land and at sea. Creative director Paul Fu recently shared on Reddit that while the map remains 16 x 16 kilometers, it now features more detail, including new islands and locations within the cities.
Of course, he didn’t reveal any details about the new locations, but it’s likely some of them will connect to the new missions. The Resynced update adds three new officers Edward can recruit to help with naval battles, but you’ll need to complete their individual quests first to gain their loyalty.
The game also features fresh content for returning characters, including Edward Thatch, better known as Blackbeard, and Stede Bonnet. You can watch a preview for Bonnet’s content here.
The game is adding both new areas to explore and new ways to get around, with a key change being the introduction of a compass. This compass replaces the usual minimap, guiding players to important locations. According to game director Richard Knight, the team wanted to keep players focused on the ocean environment with Resynced. The compass provides direction without cluttering the screen or pulling attention away from the sea.
Players can customize the controls, and the developers have heard requests to include the control scheme from the original game, though it’s unclear if this will be available at launch. Many fans are also disappointed that the Hidden Blade is no longer a usable weapon.
The updated version of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, called Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC starting July 9th. It’s already very popular, with over one million players adding it to their wishlists.
