The recent live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender has faced significant issues. After initially releasing in theaters, Paramount chose to make it available only on Paramount+. Unfortunately, the full movie was leaked online earlier this month, with clips circulating on social media, potentially discouraging fans from watching the official release. Now, one of the voice actors from the original animated series has spoken out about the situation and the impact of the leaks on the creative team.
Michaela Jill Murphy is a voice actor who has worked on popular animated shows and movies like Naruto, Meet the Robinsons, Brother Bear, and Medalist. However, she’s probably best known for voicing Toph Beifong. Recently, footage from an upcoming movie featuring an adult Toph leaked online, and Murphy has asked fans to stop sharing or discussing it. She explained that respecting the creators, cast, and the art means waiting to watch the movie when it’s officially released. She asks fans to refrain from sharing, editing, or commenting on leaked material. You can watch a video of Murphy addressing the leak below.

Just to address those asking: it’s really not difficult to avoid watching or supporting the new movie. It’s quite disrespectful to the original series and its creators. #atla #movie #toph #nickelodeon #avatar

Toph Speaks Up
Murphy, who voiced Toph in Avatar: The Last Airbender, recently used TikTok to ask fans to help stop leaks of new content. Speaking in character, she said, “Earthbending is all about a solid stance – you need to be steady and strong. Since rock is tough to move, you need to be just as resilient. So, practice patience and discipline, and please flag any leaked clips you see online. Let’s respect the work and the people who created it. I know not everyone will, but that shouldn’t stop those who do want to be respectful from doing so. Just be patient and wait for the official release.”
Although Jessie Murphy originally voiced Toph in the animated series, she won’t be reprising the role in the new live-action adaptation, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender. In fact, the entire main cast has been recast with new actors playing the adult versions of the characters, with Dionne Quan now voicing Toph in the Paramount film. Miya Cech will take on the role for the second season of the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, meaning several actresses have now portrayed the Earthbender. With Paramount planning more content set in the Avatar universe – including Avatar: Seven Havens and two additional films – we can expect to see much more of Toph and her earthbending abilities in the future.
