Filming has begun on The Batman: Part II, and excitement for the sequel is building quickly. Director Matt Reeves shared a week of sneak peek images to announce the start of production. These included a hint that the next film will take place, at least partially, during a snowy winter, and the announcement of six new actors joining the cast, alongside the returning favorites.
Many DC fans suspect that Matt Reeves subtly hinted at details beyond what was immediately obvious. Some even believe he secretly revealed who the villain will be in The Batman: Part II. Did anyone else notice this, or is it just online speculation?
Is Brian Tyree Henry The Villain of The Batman: Part II?

Okay, so Matt Reeves is really building out the cast for The Batman: Part II, and I’m loving the choices! Sebastian Stan, who I thought was great in Thunderbolts, is going to play Harvey Dent, and even better, Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) will be his wife, Gilda. Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) is joining as Harvey’s dad, Christopher Dent – talk about a powerful family! But the biggest surprises for me were the additions of Sebastian Koch (you might know him from Homeland) and Brian Tyree Henry (Eternals). I’m seriously excited to see what they all bring to the film.
Fans are eagerly trying to figure out the roles of actors Henry and Koch in the upcoming Batman sequel. A post by director Reeves hinting at Koch being “locked and loaded for Gotham” has led some to believe he’ll play Harvey Bullock, a partner to Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon. Henry’s role is more mysterious, but some fans think the order in which Reeves announced the actors is a clue. They speculate Henry might be the main villain – and a particularly unusual one that hasn’t appeared in a Batman movie before.
Is Man-Bat the Villain of The Batman: Part II?
Okay, so there’s this buzz online – everyone thinks Matt Reeves’ little GIF of Brian Tyree Henry, with that caption “Welcome to the party, man…”, is a huge hint that Henry will be playing Man-Bat in the new Batman movie. The GIF showed him on a city street kind of mimicking bat wings, which really got people talking. And then, Henry himself posted “Bat’s out the bag” when he shared Reeves’ announcement – it feels like there’s a lot more to these bat puns than just a joke, doesn’t it? It’s like they’re deliberately dropping clues!
In DC Comics, Man-Bat is the terrifying form taken by Dr. Kurt Langstrom, a scientist who underwent a monstrous transformation. Driven by his research into the medical benefits of bats, Langstrom created a serum meant to improve humans. However, when he tested it on himself, he became a human-bat hybrid and began wreaking havoc in Gotham City. Batman frequently intervenes when Langstrom reverts to his Man-Bat form, using an antidote to restore his sanity and humanity. Over time, Langstrom has unfortunately extended the curse to his wife, Francine, turning her into She-Bat. He’s also developed variations of the serum that allow him to maintain control of his mind even while transformed, enabling him to occasionally fight alongside heroic teams like the Suicide Squad and Justice League Dark.

Man-Bat made his debut as the very first villain in Batman: The Animated Series, featured in the premiere episode, “On Leather Wings,” which tells his origin story. The episode revolves around Jim Gordon, Harvey Bullock, and Harvey Dent debating whether Batman is connected to Man-Bat’s crimes, while Batman himself tries to uncover the truth behind the robberies and investigate Dr. Langstrom. This story would fit well into Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe, especially given its focus on monstrous transformations. Alternatively, Reeves could take a different approach and reimagine Kurt Langstrom and his serum in a new way.
