The BBC is getting a new legal drama series from the creators of A Woman of Substance.
Okay, so I’m really excited about this new series coming from The Forge – they did ‘Falling’ and ‘Just Act Normal,’ which I both loved. Apparently, it’s a super slick, bold thriller about a celebrity court case that just gets totally out of hand. Sounds like exactly my kind of viewing!
The new six-episode series follows Elaine, a highly respected lawyer known for defending free speech, as she takes on the biggest case of her career: representing pop sensation Davina Knight.
Okay, so things are really heating up between Davina and Billy! Apparently, Davina just dropped a new song where she basically calls out her ex for being abusive, and he’s firing back with accusations of his own. It’s gone from a personal mess to a full-blown public fight, and now they’re actually suing each other for libel – it’s a total disaster!
The legal battle extends far beyond the courtroom, becoming a public relations war where rules are stretched and social media takes center stage. Outrage is manufactured for online attention, and the truth gets distorted in the process.
This case is deeply personal for Elaine, and she’s risking a lot to win. How much is she willing to sacrifice? Meanwhile, Davina is focused on protecting her good name, and the question is, how far will she go to do so?
Anya Reiss, the writer behind ‘Becoming Elizabeth,’ explained how the idea for the series came about. She said she was immediately drawn to the fact that London is a major center for high-profile libel lawsuits, attracting wealthy and influential people who are willing to publicly defend their reputations.
She shared her enthusiasm for the project, saying she’s enjoyed creating this story and is now thrilled to see it adapted for the screen.

The Forge is producing the series. Alex Kazamia, known for their work on Generation Z, will produce, and Mahalia Belo, who directed The End We Start From, will direct. George Ormond, Jade Taylor (Just Act Normal), Anya Reiss, and Mahalia Belo are executive producers.
Meanwhile, alongside Anya Reiss, other writers on the series are Shyam Popat and Karla Crome.
George Ormond, from The Forge, expressed their excitement about collaborating with Anya once more, praising her scripts as witty, unconventional, hilarious, and incredibly engaging.
Lindsay Salt, head of BBC drama, praised “Reputation” as a captivating and relevant story. She highlighted the compelling characters created by Anya Reiss – Elaine and Davina – and expressed excitement about the collaboration with Reiss and The Forge to bring the series to BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
