BBC responds to reports that Top Gear is returning after 4 years off of TV screens with new hosts

The BBC has responded to reports that Top Gear could be returning, four years after it concluded.

According to The Sun, Top Gear is getting a new group of hosts to replace Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness, and Chris Harris, and plans for the show’s revival are already underway.

According to a source, BBC executives want to bring back Top Gear. They haven’t been able to find a replacement that captures the same audience, and many viewers still miss having a show dedicated to cars.

The show isn’t just popular in Britain – it’s a globally recognized brand with millions of viewers. That’s why it was crucial to create a version that would please both car enthusiasts and dedicated Top Gear fans, who will be delighted to know it’s coming back.

A BBC Studios representative confirmed that the Top Gear brand is still successful online, in print, and internationally. They are constantly looking for new opportunities to expand the brand using its well-known name, but there are currently no plans to announce regarding a new television series.

In 2023, the BBC announced that Top Gear wouldn’t be back on air for the time being, stating they were putting the UK version of the show on hold.

As a huge fan of Top Gear, I was relieved to hear the BBC reaffirm their commitment to Freddie Flintoff, Chris Harris, and Paddy McGuinness. They’ve really breathed new life into the show since 2019, and it’s great to know the BBC is working on future projects with all of them. They’ve promised to share more details soon, which I’m eagerly awaiting!

“We know resting the show will be disappointing news for fans, but it is the right thing to do.

This pause in production doesn’t impact other parts of Top Gear, such as versions made for different countries, the online content, the magazine, or products featuring the Top Gear brand.

The announcement followed uncertainty about the show’s future, which arose after presenter Freddie Flintoff was seriously injured in a car crash last year at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey.

Following a fast-moving crash at the track, Flintoff was quickly taken to the hospital by air ambulance.

For the first time, sports star and TV host Freddie Flintoff publicly shared the details of his injuries in a new documentary.

He explained in the documentary that he vividly remembers the entire experience. He even admitted it might have been preferable if he’d lost consciousness for a week or so.

Remembering the accident, Flintoff explained that he was driving a three-wheeled vehicle. It had a strong windscreen and a roll bar, but he felt exposed as the bar only covered about half of his back. He estimated he was going around 40 or 45 miles per hour when they were demonstrating how to drift the car, and the front wheel lifted off the ground.

Rolling a car is strange – there’s a moment where you know it’s inevitable, and everything seems to happen in slow motion. It’s similar to batting in cricket; you have just a fraction of a second – about four-tenths of a second – to decide where the ball is going and what shot to take, and whether you have time to move your feet.

As it began to tip, I glanced down and realized I was either going to be struck from the side, potentially breaking my neck, or my best bet was to fall face first.

In 2023, Freddie Flintoff reportedly received £9 million in a settlement from BBC Studios, the BBC’s commercial arm. This payment didn’t come from money collected through TV licenses (according to BBC News).

BBC Studios has come to an agreement with Freddie to help with his recovery, his return to work, and his future goals. They have offered a sincere apology and will continue to support him as he recovers.
