After the debut of their latest game, TRON: Catalyst, Bithell Games has let go a significant number of its full-time employees. This news was shared by the company’s founder, Mike Bithell, on Bluesky. The signs indicating potential job cuts were already noticeable even before the release of Catalyst (and its mixed critical reviews).
As our latest game was about to launch, it became evident that we, like numerous game development teams, were not exempt from the financial struggles encountered in securing funding partners during 2024 and 2025. Fortunately, we have been able to discuss these challenges proactively, and collaborate with affected employees to minimize layoffs as much as possible through severance packages.
The layoffs at Bithell Games are happening because they haven’t been able to find a big upcoming project. However, this doesn’t affect the availability of our current self-published games or their continued support. Keep in mind that since we publish games like John Wick Hex (recently removed from storefronts), TRON: Identity, and TRON: Catalyst, which are also published by Big Fan Games and Devolver Digital, this situation might affect them as well.
1. Regarding the studio’s upcoming project and details about TRON: Catalyst sales figures, they remain unclear for now; keep an eye out for further updates.
2. The industry has faced another round of layoffs at Bithell Games, following a series of mass job cuts this year by Microsoft, Supermassive Games, Virtuos, Codemasters, Electronic Arts, Eidos Montreal, Crystal Dynamics, PlayStation Visual Arts, Striking Distance Studios, Boss Games, and others.
