Brendan Fraser teases fans about The Mummy 4 and reveals he’s “doing my best” to get into shape for it

Fans are incredibly excited for the next The Mummy movie, and Brendan Fraser has shared a hint of what’s to come. He’s also confirmed he’s been working to get physically fit to reprise his role as Rick O’Connell.

Brendan Fraser mentioned on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that a reunion with the cast is planned. He explained they’re finally giving fans what they’ve been requesting for the past two decades.

Fraser has said he held out hope for a fourth film in the series for a long time, ever since the last one was released in 2008.

He admitted he wasn’t sure if they would happen, but then more Mummy films were made. He explained they’re planning to revisit the original filming locations, though he quickly added that he didn’t want to reveal too much about their plans.

Fraser asked Fallon and the audience to wish him luck, explaining he was working hard to get in shape for his role, despite being 57 years old.

Rachel Weisz will return to the film series, once again playing Evelyn Carnahan-O’Connell. She previously appeared in the first two movies but didn’t participate in the third, where her role was played by Maria Bello. Brendan Fraser will also star in the film.

The film will be directed by the filmmaking duo Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett), with a screenplay by Dave Coggeshall. It’s currently scheduled to come out on October 15, 2027.

Earlier this year, director Bettinelli-Olpin explained that Fraser and Weisz joined the project because of the script’s strong emotional core and well-developed characters. He praised the script as having “all of the heart and the character that you could hope for.”

Gillett believes Brendan and Rachel will only participate if they truly connect with the script, and early indications are positive – they seemed to enjoy what they read. He also thinks the script is strong and the project will be enjoyable to work on.

It’s still uncertain if we’ll see other characters from the original movies, like Jonathan, played by John Hannah, appear in the future.

The Mummy 4 is set to be released in cinemas on 15 October 2027.

You can now watch the first three Mummy movies on Sky Movies and NOW.
