The second part of Bridgerton season 4 delivered plenty of surprises, especially for Lady Violet, played by Ruth Gemmell, who unexpectedly ended her engagement with Lord Marcus, portrayed by Daniel Francis.
Violet and her partner had a strong connection all season and were a fan-favorite couple, but she wasn’t prepared to tell her children about their engagement. In fact, she preferred to stay engaged rather than get married, and wanted to keep things as they were.

Marcus was stunned when Violet simply asked to marry her, and their relationship now appears to be finished. Though it was a heartbreaking moment, the show’s creator, Jess Brownell, explains that Violet felt empowered by the exchange.
In a conversation with TopMob, Brownell shared that he enjoys the dynamic between the players and has been pleased with the positive response to the phrase ‘I am the tea’.
It seems a bit soon for Violet to be thinking about marriage again, especially since she’s just starting to date after losing her husband. I think she needs time to rediscover herself, and that’s a really positive thing. I’m looking forward to seeing her grow over the next few seasons.
The finale showed Violet thinking about her own past and recognizing similarities between herself and Benedict, especially how he’s lived his life. This glimpse of a younger Violet makes us wonder if a spin-off series focusing on her earlier years might be in the works.
“That’s up to Shonda!,” Brownell told TopMob.
I’m hoping we’ll get a spin-off show focusing on a younger Violet! I’d definitely watch it. Ultimately, that decision is up to Shonda Rhimes, and right now I’m concentrating on finishing out our current eight seasons. But yes, I’d be a huge fan of a young Violet spin-off.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Violet. However, with her now prioritizing her own personal growth and independence, rather than solely focusing on her roles as a wife and mother, we might see a very different side of her in future seasons.
