BTS is officially back—and they’ve got a sweet treat to accompany the news.
The seven members of the K-Pop group—Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook—have finished their required military service and are returning stronger than before. To mark this exciting moment, they’ve partnered with OREO to create a limited-edition brown-sugar pancake flavored cookie, inspired by the Korean street food hotteok, and featuring purple-colored cookies.
For the band, the partnership is a call back to their earliest days as K-Pop trainees.
In a recent Q&A video with TopMob News, RM shared a story about the group’s early days. He mentioned that 14 years ago, when they were still trainees, they released a song called ‘A Typical Trainee’s Christmas.’
The comment reminded Jimin of a line in the song’s chorus – “oreo” – and he playfully sang it to RM. RM quickly replied with the next line of the song: “The company keeps telling me to practice.”
As RM put it, “From that line, didn’t this partnership seem kind of destined?”
Thinking back to a memory from ten years ago, Jimin wondered aloud, “Has it really been fourteen years?” RM playfully responded, “You always seem to have everything figured out.”
Beyond simply feeling like a perfect fit, the OREO collaboration lets BTS connect with their fans—the BTS Army—in everyday life.
Suga mentioned that if he came across the purple packaging in a store, he’d be intrigued and likely purchase the item.
Jin explained, “Knowing how much fans love OREOs, and how much they love us, we think this collaboration will really make them happy and excited!”
Plus, the special-flavored cookie becoming available in the US is its own full-circle moment.
RM recalled their first appearance at the Billboard Music Awards in 2017, saying, “It feels like a long time ago, and it’s a real honor to be here.”
Jimin was also overwhelmed with emotion. He explained that being able to share a part of themselves with American culture felt unbelievable and impossible to describe.
What better way to celebrate finally reconnecting after so many years than with a brand new, unique cookie flavor?
As V added, “We’re back, and we’re bringing the hotteok OREO.”
