Call the Midwife and Bergerac stars’ wild new BBC One drama has release date confirmed

Even though summer hasn’t officially started yet, it’s a good time to plan your viewing, as the BBC has announced the release date for “Two Weeks in August,” a drama set in Greece.

Created by Catherine Shepherd, known for her work on Peep Show, the new eight-part series will premiere on BBC One with two back-to-back episodes on Saturday, May 23rd, starting at 9pm. All eight episodes will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer from that same day.

Jessica Raine, known from ‘Call the Midwife,’ and Damien Molony, who starred in ‘Bergerac,’ play a married couple named Zoe and Dan. They travel to Greece with a group of friends from their university days for a vacation at a villa.

I’m really excited about the cast! We’ve got Nicholas Pinnock, who I loved in ‘Long Bright River,’ playing Solomon, and Antonia Thomas, who was fantastic in ‘Misfits,’ as his wife, Jess. Plus, Leila Farzad – she’s great in ‘Better’ – will be playing Nat, and Hugh Skinner, known from ‘Twenty Twenty Six,’ is joining us as Jacob. It’s a great group of actors!

“Two Weeks in August” is a series set in Greece about a woman seeking happiness on vacation with loved ones. However, a single impulsive kiss throws the entire trip into chaos and turns her dream getaway into a stressful experience.

Zoe finally follows her heart’s desires, but her dream vacation quickly turns into a crisis for a group of adults who are stuck in their old ways. When they realize they can’t leave the island and face dangerous circumstances, the group starts to blame each other, desperate to find someone to hold accountable.

Is Zoe causing all the trouble and chaos, or are there more powerful, unseen forces at work? After all, we’re in Greece – a place steeped in the legends of ancient gods…

I recently checked out this new series, and the cast is fantastic! It was filmed on location in Malta, which adds a beautiful backdrop, and features some really familiar faces. You’ve got Dolly Wells, who I loved in ‘And Just Like That…’, alongside Tom Goodman-Hill from ‘Baby Reindeer.’ Plus, Dylan Brady of ‘Andor,’ Maria Almeida (‘The Buccaneers’), Khalil Gharbia (‘Towards Zero’), Florence Banks (‘The New Look’), Sonny Poon Tip (‘Industry’), and even Cassius Hackforth from ‘Doctor Who’ all make appearances. It’s a seriously strong ensemble!

Two Weeks in August will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 9pm on Saturday 23 May 2026.
