Okay, so looking at the best new games this year, if we ignore things like expansions and games that came to multiple platforms, two PlayStation 5 exclusives are seriously standing out. First up is Nioh 3 from Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo – it dropped back in February and, like the other Nioh games, it’s only on PS5. It’s currently sitting at an 86 on Metacritic, making it the sixth highest-rated new game of 2026 so far. The other one is Cairn, a brand new game from The Game Bakers – a French studio. It launched at the end of January and immediately got an 85 on Metacritic, which is pretty impressive!

Despite not competing for Best Picture, the 98th annual ceremony still recognized several popular genre films. Horror films, in particular, received a record number of nominations, led by Sinners. That film wasn’t the only one; Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and Zach Cregger’s Weapons also earned multiple nominations. Plus, thanks to Netflix releasing films in theaters, the year’s biggest blockbuster, KPop Demon Hunters, was eligible for awards this year.

The game sold five million copies in its first week, both in stores and online, making it the fastest-selling title in the Resident Evil series. Capcom announced this success and hinted at upcoming events to mark the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil.

GNOSIA was initially released in Japan for the PS Vita on June 6, 2019. It later came to the Nintendo Switch on December 17, 2020 in Japan, and worldwide on March 4, 2021. The game was also released on PC via Steam on January 23, 2022, and on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on December 14, 2023.

Although many popular shows are getting rebooted or revived, director Chloé Zhao wasn’t surprised when the Buffy revival was canceled. She shared this on the 2026 Oscars red carpet (as reported by Variety), where she was promoting her film Hamnet. Jessie Buckley later won Best Actress that night. Zhao explained she had anticipated the cancellation, stating:

It’s no surprise that KPop Demon Hunters is making waves. The movie has become Netflix’s biggest hit by a large margin and is now their most award-winning animated film. With wins for both Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, it’s the first Netflix animated movie to ever win multiple Oscars. The song “Golden” also made history as the first K-Pop song to win an Academy Award.

After talks between TYPE-MOON’s parent company, Notes, and Bandai Namco, a decision has been made regarding the remake. Work on the game will continue, and details about the new publisher and when it will be released will be shared as soon as they’re finalized.
