I’m so excited! One of my favorite RPGs from the old PSP days is getting a full remake, and it’s coming out in 2026! Even though the PSP wasn’t as powerful as the PS2 or PS3, it still had some amazing games, especially RPGs – think Final Fantasy, Persona, Star Ocean, and even Kingdom Hearts. And now, another great RPG from a well-loved series is getting a fresh start, with a release planned for this fall!
GungHo announced today that Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter will be released soon, sharing a new trailer with the news. Originally launched on PC in 2006 as The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC, the game came to PSP in 2007 and was later available on PS3 and PS Vita. While popular in Japan, it wasn’t widely released in other regions until 2015, meaning it’s often missed when people talk about the best RPGs on the PSP.
The remake of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is coming out on September 17th. This version will have enhanced graphics and gameplay, plus new content not included in the original game. For the first time, it won’t be exclusive to PlayStation and will also be available on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam.
Okay, so I’m super excited about this game! It starts with Estelle and Joshua finally becoming full-fledged bracers after dealing with that crazy coup in Liberl. But then, right before the Queen’s birthday celebration, Joshua drops this huge bombshell about his past and just… disappears! He leaves Estelle this heartbreaking message – just ‘Goodbye, Estelle’ – and vanishes into the night. Now, Estelle’s determined to find him, and she’s setting off on this massive journey across the continent, carrying his harmonica and refusing to give up hope. It sounds so dramatic and I can’t wait to play it!
Though Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter is receiving a lot of attention as a PSP remake this year, it’s not the only one. NIS America also announced remakes of both R-Type Tactics games, originally released exclusively for the PSP. These remakes are scheduled to launch this summer, giving fans of the handheld console something to enjoy in the coming months.
