Crunchyroll’s Major Action Series Unveils New Look At Beloved Characters Amid Season 3 Delay

Wind Breaker has quickly become a popular action anime based on Satoru Nii’s ongoing manga, which started in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket. The first two seasons of the anime, which premiered in 2024, were big hits on Crunchyroll, and are now available on Netflix. While fans are waiting for news about a third season – it’s been almost a year since the second season ended and there’s been no announcement – a live-action adaptation debuted in Japan in December 2025, with no current plans for a return. Thankfully, the manga continues to release new chapters weekly and Volume 26 is scheduled to come out on June 9th, 2026. The cover, shared on X by anime/manga news source @MangaMoguraRE, shows Sakura confronting his past. The initial release will be in Japanese, with the English version following a few months later. Currently, 19 volumes of the manga are available in both print and digital formats, with volumes 20 and 21 available digitally only.

What Is Wind Breaker About?

Haruka Sakura is a new student at Furin High, hoping for a fresh start. He faced bullying and isolation in his old town because of his unusual appearance, which led him to become withdrawn and find solace in fighting. He moved to a new town wanting to become strong, but he soon discovers the group of tough kids he wants to join aren’t just troublemakers – they’re actually the town’s protectors, using their strength for good.

Sakura never wanted to be a hero. He didn’t feel a strong desire to protect people, particularly because he’d often been let down by others. The members of Bofurin, a group led by Hajime Umemiya, were different – they dedicated themselves to keeping the town safe and avoided pointless fights. Surprisingly, despite his initial reluctance, Sakura quickly found a place among the Bofurin members and joined them in protecting their town.

He’s finally accepted and appreciated by everyone because of his bravery. Throughout the story, he becomes more confident and discovers a sense of belonging. As he rises in power within Bofurin, he faces challenges from rival gangs who disrupt the town’s peace. The season finale leaves viewers on the edge of their seats, hinting at a fantastic storyline from the manga that will likely be featured in the next season.
