So, remember back in September when Keanu Reeves said he’d totally be up for playing Johnny Silverhand again? He straight-up said he’d love to! Well, it sounds like that might actually happen. CD Projekt RED was streaming recently, and Mike Pondsmith, the guy who created the whole Cyberpunk universe, hinted they’re open to bringing Keanu back as Johnny in the next game. Pretty cool, right?
Pondsmith’s excitement comes after a lot of discussion about whether Keanu Reeves might return as Johnny Silverhand, following his story in Cyberpunk 2077. It’s a complicated question because the game has different endings. However, Pondsmith may have suggested there are ways to bring the character back that would fit with the game’s established story, especially considering the universe’s focus on digital memories, immersive recordings, and the idea of consciousness existing within technology.
I recently heard Keanu Reeves wants to reprise his role as Johnny and explore ways to bring the character back to life. I believe I have some ideas on how to make that happen, and I’m reaching out to him to discuss them.
The main challenge is figuring out how to evolve beloved characters and the series’ style—which will likely involve new settings, actors, and advanced technology like Unreal Engine 5—while still keeping the core, gritty, futuristic feel that fans love. A smaller-scale return, perhaps through flashbacks, artificial intelligence, or specific plot points, could please fans without locking the sequel into one definitive ending.
Okay, so if they bring Johnny Silverhand back in the next Cyberpunk game, I really hope he’s there to kick things off story-wise, not just be a famous face hanging around. I want him to be a spark for my choices, not someone who takes over the story. Honestly, it won’t matter who they include if I don’t still get to create my own legend in whatever city we’re exploring next. That’s the real thing I’m hoping for.
