
David Corenswet revealed a behind-the-scenes moment from the set of Superman where he and director James Gunn had a creative difference while filming an important scene.
During a discussion on Variety’s Actors on Actors, David Corenswet and Jonathan Bailey reminisced about the iconic flying kiss between Superman and Lois Lane. Corenswet, who plays Superman in the new DC Universe, shared a story about filming that scene.
I’d happily support both Cynthia and Ari forever if I could. I was really surprised by the kiss at the end of “Superman.” What I love most about their connection is the little chuckle they share.
David Corenswet explained that while filming a scene where his character hears “I love you too,” director James Gunn asked him to remove a chuckle. Corenswet initially disagreed, believing the chuckle conveyed, “I know you love me,” but Gunn was right to push for a more serious take. Corenswet acknowledged Gunn was correct about almost everything, and in this case, the chuckle didn’t feel authentic.
