Alex Ross and another artist are creating a series of connecting comic book covers to commemorate a classic team-up between major publishers.
DC Comics recently revealed new artwork by Alex Ross that will appear on reprinted issues of JLA/Avengers #3 and Avengers/JLA #4. The covers will connect to form a larger image, with one depicting the Avengers charging into action and the other showing the Justice League prepared for a confrontation with heroes from another universe.
Marvel and DC Comics are Bringing Back One of the Best Comic Book Crossovers of All Time

The highly anticipated JLA/Avengers crossover finally arrived in 2003, the result of nearly twenty years of planning. Created by renowned writer Kurt Busiek and celebrated artist George Pérez – who had previously worked on a similar, unreleased project – the four-issue series JLA/Avengers and Avengers/JLA featured the heroes from Marvel and DC working together to prevent the destruction of both universes.
New printings of this series were announced in March. They’re part of a growing collection of similar books, and offer a great opportunity to rediscover a truly fantastic title that has often been difficult to find. The announcement describes it as “the grandest Marvel and DC Comics crossover of all time, an iconic event decades in the making!”
After a long wait, the highly anticipated JLA/AVENGERS brought together writer Kurt Busiek, known for Marvels, and artist George Pérez – a legendary figure for both Marvel and DC – to create a massive crossover event featuring every member of the Justice League and the Avengers! The story kicks off with the Justice League battling the giant Terminus and the Avengers confronting the powerful Starro. Each team is sent on a dangerous mission to the other’s world, and the survival of both universes hangs in the balance.
2026 Has Been A Great Year For Marvel and DC Comics Crossover Events
This April, comic book fans enjoyed a team-up between their favorite heroes with the release of Spider-Man/Superman #1, continuing the trend started earlier this year. Similar to last year’s Deadpool/Batman and Batman/Deadpool series, this new issue includes several stories by top writers and artists, each showcasing a different combination of characters from DC and Marvel Comics.
These team-ups between different comic universes have led to many new and interesting versions of beloved characters. Last year, fans were introduced to Logo, a combined version of Wolverine and Lobo. This year, a new character appeared with Superman’s abilities, but used them in a different way.
JLA/Avengers #1 from Marvel Comics arrives in comic book stores everywhere this May.
