Now that DC Studios is developing a series focused on Jimmy Olsen and crime, fans are wondering if the upcoming Superman spin-off will be where we first see the Flash in the new DC Universe. Recent announcements about the show have detailed its plot and characters, and the inclusion of Gorilla Grodd – a famous enemy of the Flash – has led many to believe the Flash’s debut in the DCU is right around the corner.
Fans say the Flash could make a ‘little cameo’ in upcoming Jimmy Olsen series
DC Studios is developing a new show called DC Crime, a spin-off focusing on Jimmy Olsen. Skyler Gisondo is expected to return as Olsen, and the series will follow him and other Daily Planet reporters investigating cases involving supervillains. The first season will heavily feature Gorilla Grodd as the main antagonist.
In DC comics, Grodd is a highly intelligent, villainous ape usually seen as an enemy of the Flash. Because of this, many fans online are speculating that his introduction in DC Crime might foreshadow the first appearance of the Flash within the new DC Universe.
One DC fan on X (formerly Twitter) suggested this might be where we first see other DC heroes, like a glimpse of The Flash as a red blur with lightning. Another user theorized that Grodd could appear, perhaps in a flashback or a quick cameo, rather than a major role.
Some fans aren’t thrilled with the possibility of seeing the Flash first appear in a show focused on Superman, like one about Jimmy Olsen. One user on X (formerly Twitter) called it “the stupidest idea ever.”
One fan playfully pointed out that no major movie franchise seems to know how to properly handle the Flash. They noted that the previous DC Extended Universe gave us a Flash without any of his classic enemies, and the new DC Universe appears to be going the opposite way – focusing on villains without a strong Flash character. The fan hopes the next reboot will finally get it right, giving us a complete and satisfying portrayal of the hero and his world.
As of now, it’s unclear if The Flash will first appear in the DC Crime series. There’s also no confirmed release date for that spin-off yet.
