The second season of the popular series set in Death Valley is arriving soon, with the BBC announcing its premiere date.
Gwyneth Keyworth and Timothy Spall lead the funny and mysterious series as an unexpected duo: Janie Mallowan, a determined detective, and John Chapel, a former TV star she once admired. He’s known for playing the detective Caesar.
Last year, this series became a huge success on BBC One and iPlayer, attracting more viewers overnight than David Mitchell’s show, Ludwig. It was the BBC’s most popular comedy launch in five years.
So, it’s been confirmed that Death Valley will return for a second season, premiering on BBC One on Sunday, May 17th at 8:15pm. All episodes will also be available to stream on iPlayer starting the same day.

The second season of Death Valley begins with an uncomfortable meeting between the two friends, whose relationship fell apart after John started dating Janie’s mom, Yvonne (played by Melanie Walters from Gavin & Stacey).
When a member of a community service group is found dead – pushed from a ruined castle – the investigators will have to set aside their personal issues to solve the case.
The list of suspects includes the victim’s bitter ex-wife, a sarcastic juvenile delinquent, a seasoned criminal, a former Welsh politician who fell from grace, and their cheerful boss.

John will handle the case in his usual, unconventional way, going undercover to figure out who could have committed this awful crime. At the same time, we’ll see how Janie is adjusting to her new role as Detective Inspector.
This isn’t the only new development for her, as she’s also moved out of her mother’s house because of her mother’s dating life. She’s now living with Helen Baxter, a pathologist and a familiar face played by Alexandria Riley.
Steffan Rhodri and Rithvik Andugula are series regulars, and the show will also feature appearances by Hammed Animashaun from SNL UK, Jane Horrocks of Absolutely Fabulous, Alexandra Roach (known for Nightsleeper), Hannah Daniel (from The Guest), and rising star Jacob Ethan Tanner.
Death Valley season 2 comes to BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday 17 May 2026. Catch up on season 1 now.
