Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Fan Theory Debunked by Showrunner

Clyde Phillips, the showrunner for *Dexter: Resurrection*, has dismissed a popular fan theory. Many viewers, disappointed with previous seasons, found *Dexter: Resurrection* to be one of the strongest installments in the series. The season follows Dexter Morgan as he attempts to reconnect with his son in New York City, while also confronting consequences from his past and battling new urges from his dark side. Importantly, the show delivers what fans want without dwelling on Dexter’s guilt or trying to punish him.

Honestly, *Dexter: New Blood* (or *Resurrection*, whatever you want to call it) really hit the spot because it gave us fans exactly what we wanted. It was cool how the writers even acknowledged us directly at the end, like they were listening to what we thought. Now everyone’s super hyped for Season 2, even though Paramount+ and Showtime haven’t officially announced it yet. The creator, Clyde Phillips, just said they’re starting the writers’ room in October and planning to film next spring. Until then, it’s all just speculation and theories, which is kinda fun, right?

Dexter: Resurrection Creator Debunks Mia Theory

After Mia’s death in Episode 6 of *Dexter: Resurrection*, viewers have wondered if the full story hasn’t been told. Charley bribed a prison guard regarding Mia, but it was never made clear what she asked him to do. Later, Batista and the NYPD question Charley, only to learn that Mia died by suicide in her cell, and the guard confirms her death. While it appears the guard faked her suicide, some fans think he actually helped Mia escape by making it look like she died.

I always thought the idea that Mia was still alive was a bit of a stretch – you’d have to perform an autopsy and then bury or cremate her body. However, this theory gained popularity after the final episode of *Dexter: Resurrection*. Dexter finds Mia’s file while going through Prater’s documents, and it’s marked as “active,” unlike files for people who are known to be dead. While some fans saw this as proof she was alive, it’s more likely Prater simply hasn’t updated the file because he’s been busy dealing with everything happening around him, and keeping Dexter entertained.

Dexter’s creator, Clyde Phillips, addressed a popular fan theory on the Dissecting Dexter podcast, clarifying it wasn’t intentionally planted as a hint for later seasons. While anything is possible, he believes the theory has been disproven. Although Dexter: Resurrection is currently planned for three seasons, Phillips admits they’re still developing the storyline and haven’t fully mapped out the future. There’s a chance Mia could return – even Krysten Ritter, who played the character, has hinted at discussions about her future – but these conversations may have been about a potential spin-off series instead.

With the cancellation of *Dexter: Original Sin* Season 2, it appears any further spin-offs from the *Dexter* universe are unlikely. Clyde Phillips has expressed disappointment with the decision to end a popular show and believes Paramount won’t move forward with the planned *Trinity Killer* series. This also throws doubt on any other potential spin-offs that were being considered. Previously, the plan was to create a *Dexter* television universe similar to *Yellowstone*, and Phillips spent a year developing ideas. However, it now seems the focus will be solely on *Dexter: Resurrection*.
