Doja Cat Hints at Taking Yearslong Break From Music Career

Doja Cat wants to paint the town red—without having to worry about work.

After releasing her album Vie last September, the 30-year-old singer is considering taking a long break from music once she finishes recording the deluxe versions of the songs and completes her tour.

In an interview with Elle on May 14th, she mentioned she’s planning to take three years off to do whatever she feels like.

Doja Cat, whose full name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, shared some plans for her future projects. She mentioned possibly painting another mural and completely redecorating the upstairs of her house, which has been empty for four or five years. She described the situation as ‘bizarre’.

Doja Cat has been keeping busy with her Ma Vie World Tour, which began last November. She recently took a short break to attend the Met Gala, where she wore a stunning nude silicone gown inspired by ancient Greece, designed by Saint Laurent, and debuted a new blonde hairstyle.

I’m so excited to see Doja Cat continue her tour! It’s heading to Europe soon, kicking off in Dublin on May 19th. And honestly, knowing how much she loves England and British culture, I’m not surprised she’s thrilled about that part of the tour!

She told Elle that London is one of her favorite cities to perform in. She loves the audiences there, saying they’re really engaged, enthusiastic, and don’t seem to worry about what others think, which makes for a great show.

Despite the tiring nature of touring, the rapper known as ‘Need to Know’ shared that she particularly enjoys the fashion aspect of it.

She explained that she pours her heart into every outfit she wears onstage. She carefully considers both hair and makeup, blending them together to create looks that are artistic, meaningful, and tailored to each specific venue.
