Dragon Ball Super’s New Remake Is a Great Idea, Here’s Why

I was really excited to hear all the news coming out of the Genki Dama Matsuri, the event celebrating Dragon Ball‘s 40th anniversary! It sounds like the franchise is making a big comeback, with a remake planned for Fall 2026. They’re going to revisit the story of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, which introduces Beerus, this incredibly powerful God of Destruction. He’s on the hunt for a Super Saiyan God, and when he finds Goku, he’s honestly a little underwhelmed! Apparently, Goku isn’t quite what Beerus expected after decades of sleep and a prophetic dream where he hoped to find a truly worthy opponent. It seems Goku’s power level isn’t up to par with what Beerus was hoping for.

When the God of Destruction puts the planet in danger, Goku and the Z Fighters will do anything to defeat him. They discover a powerful, legendary transformation through the Dragon Balls and Shenron, but it requires specific conditions to unlock. Originally created by Akira Toriyama and released in 2013, the film came out two years before the Dragon Ball Super manga started. A trailer for the remake was recently revealed during the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour, and fans are incredibly impressed with what they’ve seen.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Remake Is Fixing Major Issues From The Original

As a huge fan, I’m absolutely blown away by the new trailer! It’s clear this remake isn’t just a touch-up – it’s a complete reimagining of the original story, even though it follows the same plot. The animation is seriously next-level, and the action sequences look incredible – way more thrilling than before! They’re rebuilding everything from the ground up – visuals, sound, the whole composition. Plus, they’ve added new scenes and completely re-shot every single moment. What’s really exciting is that they’re staying much closer to Akira Toriyama’s original ideas – he was heavily involved in the concept! During a recent panel, Executive Producer Akio Iyoku explained they’ve really focused on improving the art and fully reconstructing the story. A lot of people have always pointed out issues with the animation quality in the original, and it sounds like they’re addressing all of that!

Dragon Ball Super Has Already Confirmed a Frieza Remake

The celebration of the franchise’s 40th anniversary goes on with the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour. The event featured updates on the Dragon Ball series and a special appearance by Goku’s voice actress, Masako Nozawa. During the event, the new trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus was unveiled, and fans were asked for their reactions.

Nozawa continued by hinting at a revamped version of the fight between Goku and Frieza. He mentioned how exciting the battle between Goku and Beerus was, and then teased Frieza’s arrival, expressing hope that fans will be thrilled with this stronger, improved rematch!

I’ve always thought Frieza was the definitive Dragon Ball villain. When he appeared on Namek, his incredible power and constant transformations really showed how dangerous he was. He pushed Goku further than anyone had before, ultimately forcing him to become a Super Saiyan – a moment that completely changed the direction of the series and is still talked about by fans today. And even after Goku’s battle with Beerus, Frieza came back, somehow even stronger, and once again put Earth in danger.

Driven by a desire for revenge against the Saiyans who killed him, he spends four months training to unlock a new, incredibly strong transformation before heading to Earth for a confrontation. The movie was co-written by Akira Toriyama and first released in April 2015, just before the Dragon Ball Super manga started appearing in magazines.
