11 Years Later, Acclaimed Shonen Jump Anime Is Finally Coming to Netflix

The first month of the Spring 2026 anime season is wrapping up, and it’s been full of surprises. Netflix is increasingly involved in anime, consistently releasing new content that anime fans love. While Crunchyroll offers a wide variety of new shows each season, Netflix typically focuses on original series, reboots of classic anime, and a few highly anticipated new titles. Recently, Netflix has been investing more in brand-new anime series and films, reflecting the rapid growth of the industry. As a leading streaming service, it boasts a fantastic selection of anime and continues to add more every month.

Every month, the platform offers something new for anime lovers, though the number of additions varies. April brought surprises like exclusive releases of works from the creator of Gintama, including Dandelion and The Ramparts of Ice, as well as popular shows like Overlord and Spy x Family. Recently, What’s on Netflix revealed what’s coming in May 2026. While the May lineup isn’t extensive, the highly-rated Shonen Jump anime Assassination Classroom is finally being added. Currently, only the first season is confirmed, but the platform may add the final second season in the coming weeks or months.

What Is Assassination Classroom About?

This anime is adapted from a manga by Yuusei Matsui, originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 to 2016. The anime series premiered just before the manga ended and quickly became popular with its engaging story, memorable characters, and blend of dark humor, action, and drama. The story follows Class 3-E at Kunugigaoka Middle School – a class considered to be the school’s worst students, and relegated to a remote mountain campus.

I’ve been observing this group of students, and honestly, most of them are heading down a difficult path. They’re constantly getting into trouble and their grades are really suffering – it feels like they avoid studying whenever possible. But things recently changed with a new homeroom teacher. This teacher… well, he’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. He’s a bit of a menace, actually, claiming he destroyed the moon and openly stating his intention to do the same to Earth by next March. It’s a pretty terrifying situation.

The government has been hiding a powerful individual by assigning him to be a homeroom teacher. Unbeknownst to the students, they’ve been given the impossible task of eliminating him. However, he’s incredibly powerful and untouchable, and surprisingly, he’s also an amazing teacher.
