Dutton Ranch Set Up Beth’s Most Hated Dead Brother Coming Back To Haunt Her

Be warned, this contains spoilers for Season 1, Episode 3 of Dutton Ranch, “Act of God Business.” Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) has left Montana, but his sister Beth (Kelly Reilly) may still be affected by their shared history. Even as Beth and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) start a new life in South Texas, their past – and the way they dealt with Jamie – will continue to impact them.

In the final episode of Yellowstone, Beth and Rip killed Jamie as payback for his involvement in the attempt on his father, John Dutton (Kevin Costner)’s, life. Jamie had essentially allowed his girlfriend, Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri), to hire people to kill John, which Beth had vowed would lead to Jamie’s death throughout the series.

Beth has come to Rio Paloma, Texas, seeking the tranquility she couldn’t find while carrying out her father’s orders at the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. She’s a changed woman as she starts a beef business that might have rescued the Yellowstone, but John Dutton wouldn’t let her. While Jamie remains on her mind, her feelings toward him are different than they were back at Yellowstone.

What Beth Mentioning Jamie In Dutton Ranch Means

Okay, so in the latest Dutton Ranch episode, things were looking up for Beth! She managed to land a fantastic deal to get Dutton Angus steaks served at a really swanky steakhouse in Dallas – she was celebrating at the bar, genuinely thrilled with herself. But then, total gut punch – she found out the ranch’s cattle had come down with foot-and-mouth disease. And while she was at the bar, she also met this intriguing guy named Joaquin Reyes, played by Juan Pablo Raba. It was a real rollercoaster of emotions in that episode!

Beth evaluated Joaquin, the man sent by Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening) to investigate what John Dutton knew about Wes Ayers’ (Nakoa DeCoite) murder. She was impressed by his polished demeanor and told him, “You remind me of my father’s lawyer.” When Joaquin pushed for more information, Beth simply smirked and replied, “It’s not ideal.”

Beth acts very pleased with herself when she brings up Jamie. Of all the people the Dutton family has defeated, Beth felt the most personal satisfaction in the idea of Jamie being gone. She’s wanted him dead since they were teenagers, ever since he intentionally had her sterilized during an abortion.

Beth immediately sees a parallel between Joaquin and Jamie – both were always trying to please and do the bidding of a powerful man, just like Jamie did for John Dutton, even when Jamie was Montana’s Attorney General. Jamie constantly struggled with following his father’s orders while also craving John’s approval, which he never received.

It’s still unclear what Joaquin’s intentions are, but he doesn’t seem like the manipulative and cowardly person Jamie was. Beth, feeling secure, isn’t worried about Joaquin or his group, the 10-Petals. She and Rip successfully dealt with Jamie Dutton and covered their tracks. Beth takes particular pride in having outsmarted and defeated Jamie, considering it her greatest accomplishment.

Will Beth & Rip’s Dutton Ranch Enemies Learn The Truth About Jamie’s Death?

Okay, so Jamie Dutton might be gone – last seen at the bottom of the Train Station, yikes – but trust me, his story isn’t over. I have a feeling his death is going to come back to seriously haunt Beth and Rip. Even though the Dutton-Wheelers have moved far away from Yellowstone, the real story of what happened to Jamie is definitely still out there, and I suspect it’s going to explode at any moment. This isn’t a closed case, folks.

The second episode of Dutton Ranch ends with Beulah Jackson reading a front-page story in The Bozeman Examiner. The article reveals that the death of Governor John Dutton is being investigated as a murder, and his son, Attorney General James Dutton, is now considered missing after trying to kill his sister, Beth.

If Beulah Jackson spends her time and money looking into the Duttons, she might discover that Jamie is actually dead. However, it’s difficult to understand how Jamie could still be involved with Beth and Rip, especially after they destroyed his car – and any evidence inside – and his body hasn’t been found at the train station.

The story about Jamie attempting to kill Beth holds some truth, though it’s not the whole picture. What really happened was a brutal fight between the Dutton siblings, and Jamie would have killed Beth if Rip hadn’t stepped in and stopped him.

It’s uncertain if Beulah will uncover everything at the Dutton Ranch, but if she does, knowing the truth about what happened to Jamie Dutton would give her a powerful advantage over Beth and Rip. This discovery could allow Jamie to get revenge on Beth even after his death.
