An iconic Electronic Arts (EA) game from 2021 is experiencing a significant surge in player numbers right now, and for a limited time, newcomers can jump in for just $3. Interestingly, during the last 24 hours, this EA title has climbed to become the 26th most-played game on Steam, with over 69,000 players playing simultaneously – a notable increase compared to its mere 5,000 concurrent players earlier in the month. Although it might appear that the low $3 price tag is driving this resurgence, that’s not actually the case.
The game in question, Battlefield 2042, has been previously priced around the same level and is currently generating a significant surge of interest. This escalation is largely due to the highly anticipated release of Battlefield 6, slated for 2025. Having recently held a Beta, Battlefield 6 appears poised to overtake its long-term competitor, Call of Duty, this year. To put it simply, interest in Battlefield hasn’t been this high in quite some time. In fact, the level of excitement might not have been seen since the release of Battlefield 1 back in 2016. However, subsequent releases like Battlefield V in 2018 and Battlefield 2042 in 2021 didn’t maintain the series’ momentum as indicated by their review scores and player counts.
Battlefield Fans Can’t Wait Anymore
Despite its less-than-stellar reputation and not being considered the finest game, the enthusiasm among Battlefield fans for Battlefield 6 is so palpable that they’ve flocked to Battlefield 2042 instead. This surge in interest is evident not only by the return of Steam users to the four-year-old first-person shooter but also by Battlefield 2042 reappearing among the top 50 most-played games on Xbox and entering the top 40 on PlayStation.
Regarding the matter at hand, upon its launch in 2021, Battlefield 2042 was a jumbled technical mess, plagued with bugs and poor server performance. However, these issues have since been addressed, resulting in a vastly improved game from the one that initially struggled. This is evident as not only are original Battlefield fans returning to it, but they’re also showing their commitment by sticking around. That said, this could all change once Battlefield 6 hits the shelves this October, but we’ve still got a couple of months before that happens.
$3, But Not For Long
If you’re excited to play Battlefield 2042, you have a fantastic opportunity! Until September 2nd, you can get it for just $3 from both Steam and the Xbox Store. This incredible deal is made possible by a 95% discount, which is the largest ever given for this Electronic Arts game. Regrettably, PlayStation gamers will need to pay the full price of $59.99 on the PlayStation Store at this time.
