In Emmerdale, Dr. Todd, played by Caroline Harker, is involved in risky behavior, and Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) might be starting to suspect something is wrong.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Harker will return as the intimidating character in a new story focusing on workplace bullying. Todd’s behavior is erratic; she fluctuates between encouraging Jacob’s medical studies and harshly criticizing him, often demanding he finish large assignments with very little notice.
When she came back to the show, Harker called the character “complex” and said she’d be “challenging for Jacob to deal with.”
Jacob has recently had several issues at work. He incorrectly diagnosed Kim Tate, and in the same week, he performed CPR on a patient who had a do-not-resuscitate order, meaning they did not want to be revived.
Little did he realise, the patient was Todd’s father, who was living with Alzheimers.
She was extremely angry and warned him that his actions could have serious consequences, potentially costing him his certification. Todd confided in his friend Manpreet Sharma, but accidentally revealed a sensitive detail – that he had been groomed by a teacher named Maya Stepney when he was in school.
This reminded her of something Kerry Pollard (Laura Norton) had mentioned before – that Jacob had been tricked by a woman in the past. It wasn’t the first time something like this had happened with him.
Today on the show, the residents were at the Hide Bistro for a blood drive. Jacob specifically traded shifts with Richie to get out of working with Dr. Todd, not realizing she was volunteering at the event too.

He tried to avoid her, hoping to not run into her, but she eventually managed to trap him. Todd then made a surprising remark, questioning if Dr. Liam Cavanagh’s deceased wife, Leyla, might actually be Jacob’s mother.
He didn’t want to talk about it, and became visibly upset when she alluded to problems with his ex-wife, Maya.
So, Todd asked him to draw my blood, but as he was putting the needle in, I totally flinched and acted like it really hurt, even though it didn’t really. I just… did it on purpose!
Jacob spoke with Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham), who told him Todd wouldn’t know about Maya’s abuse because his name hadn’t been mentioned in news reports. Still worried, Jacob decided to confront Todd and ask her directly what she was implying.
As expected, Todd claimed she knew nothing about it, acting surprised by the accusations. She then began to cry, expressing disbelief at what she was being accused of, and revealed that her father had passed away earlier that day.
Later that day, Jacob went to the pub where Manpreet reassured him he could talk to her in confidence, and she wouldn’t share anything with Todd. She also let slip that Todd already knew Jacob was having a hard time, and she might have accidentally told him about the situation with Maya.
This was confirmation to Jacob that Todd was lying through her teeth, and couldn’t be trusted.
