Euphoria ended on a high note in terms of its viewership.
HBO’s popular and award-winning series, Euphoria, returned in April after a four-year break with its eight-episode third season. Although there had been suggestions before, it wasn’t until the season finale, “In God We Trust,” aired in May that creator Sam Levinson officially announced the show would end after season 3.
I was so captivated by the Euphoria finale, and it seems like a lot of other people were too! Variety reported that 8.7 million viewers tuned in across HBO and HBO Max in the first three days. That’s a little bit more than the season three premiere, which had 8.5 million viewers – a huge 44% jump from when season two started back in January 2022. So the finale actually saw a small increase of 2% over the premiere, which is amazing!
As a huge fan of compelling TV, I’ve been following the numbers for Euphoria season 3, and they’re really impressive! So far, each episode is pulling in around 25 million viewers, which is a solid 17% jump from where season 2 was at this point. To give you some context, The Pitt on HBO Max had a strong finale with 9.7 million viewers and averaged 15.4 million overall. But it’s important to note that those numbers are just for viewers in the U.S., while Euphoria‘s viewership is counted globally, making its success even more remarkable.
Although the show Euphoria finished strong in terms of how many people were watching, reviews for season 3 have been disappointing. It currently has a 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with many critics saying the new season feels disjointed and lacks a cohesive plot. They feel the talented cast is underutilized, forced to act out storylines that don’t connect well.
The third season of Euphoria has received much lower ratings on Rotten Tomatoes compared to its first two seasons. Critics gave it a significantly lower score than the 80% and 78% ratings of seasons one and two, respectively. Viewers also rated the new season much lower, with a score of 38% compared to 84% and 80% for the earlier seasons.
Created by Sam Levinson, the show Euphoria centers on a teenager recovering from drug addiction and her friends as they deal with challenging issues like drugs, relationships, past trauma, and the complexities of friendship. The third season will jump forward five years, showing what happens after they’ve graduated high school and moved on with their lives.
Season 3 of Euphoria features Zendaya, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Nika King, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Colman Domingo, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, and Toby Wallace. Previous seasons included Angus Cloud, Barbie Ferreira, Storm Reid, Algee Smith, Javon “Wanna” Walton, Austin Abrams, and Dominic Fike.
