A brief teaser video reveals that Season 2 of Shōgun is officially in production. The video features Hiroyuki Sanda, both as himself – a producer and Emmy-winning actor preparing on set – and as his character, Lord Yoshi Toranaga, the new Shōgun of Japan. We see him in full costume after a symbolic chess match, hinting at the political battles to come. In between these two glimpses of Sanada, the teaser includes exciting behind-the-scenes footage, promising another visually stunning and detailed recreation of feudal Japan.

The new season of Shōgun certainly looks beautiful and impressive. But beyond its stunning visuals, the real challenge will be crafting a story that’s just as captivating, well-developed, and tightly-woven as the first season.
