Fool Me Once: Netflix’s Top Streaming Series of 2024 Is The Perfect Binge

In January 2024, a surprisingly popular and inexpensive thriller on Netflix quickly became the most-watched show. It surpassed other major hits like Bridgerton and Landman, becoming the top original series on streaming platforms for the entire year.

The TV show Fool Me Once is a highly addictive mystery thriller, and one of several excellent Harlan Coben novels recently adapted by Netflix. While it may have faded from recent memory, it paved the way for popular crime shows like Run Away, which became a huge hit in 2026.

This series proved that Harlan Coben’s signature style – tense, standalone mysteries – could attract a huge audience on television. The success of Fool Me Once, as evidenced by its high ranking among Netflix’s most-watched shows, confirms it remains one of the platform’s most captivating binge-worthy series.

Fool Me Once Is One Of Netflix’s Best Binges

If you didn’t watch Fool Me Once when it first came out two years ago, it might not be on your radar. But viewers who quickly devoured all eight episodes probably still remember it well. This Netflix thriller is perfectly suited for a weekend binge – around six hours – and keeps you guessing with its many twists and turns from beginning to end.

As a big film and TV fan, I have to say Michelle Keegan is absolutely phenomenal in this! She plays Maya Burkett-Stern, and through her eyes, we’re introduced to a story where nothing is simple, not even murder. At first, the show hooks you with the question of who killed Maya’s husband, but it quickly becomes clear that there’s a much bigger, darker mystery unfolding.

Beyond offering a captivating story, Fool Me Once cleverly examines how we consume information today – from manipulated videos to shocking live streams on social media. It’s one of the smartest shows in its genre, managing to stay realistic even while unfolding a thrilling and complex conspiracy.

The Thriller Topped 2024’s Streaming Charts Ahead of Bridgerton & Landman

Early in 2024, it was highly unexpected that a British miniseries, made without any major Hollywood stars, would become the year’s biggest streaming hit. However, Fool Me Once topped the charts for original streaming series, according to data from Luminate which measured total viewing minutes.

This year, the eight-episode show racked up an impressive 12.11 billion minutes of viewing time, surpassing popular series like Bridgerton (11.07 billion minutes) and the first season of Landman (9.90 billion minutes). Other top 10 hits included Tulsa King on Paramount+ and Fallout on Prime Video.

It’s unusual for a lesser-known book adaptation to get better ratings than big-name shows, but Fool Me Once did just that, attracting a surprisingly large audience. However, fans of Harlan Coben’s books – and crime thrillers in general – weren’t surprised, and quickly spread the word, making the miniseries a viral success.
