Friends icon Lisa Kudrow reveals eye-watering amounts cast get from endless reruns of beloved sitcom

Lisa Kudrow, known for her role on ‘Friends,’ has shared how much money she and the other actors still earn from the show’s reruns, even though it ended over 20 years ago.

The actress became a global star alongside her “Friends” co-stars – Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, and the late Matthew Perry – during the show’s ten seasons, which aired from 1994 to 2004.

The six main actors initially earned $22,500 per episode in the first season of the show. However, they successfully negotiated as a group, boosting their pay to $1 million per episode by the final two seasons. Variety reports they also made at least $2.5 million each for appearing in the 2021 reunion special.

Lisa Kudrow shared in a recent interview that she and her Friends co-stars now make around $20 million each year from the show being re-run on television.

Kudrow explained that she revisited the show after the passing of Matthew Perry in 2023, and it reminded her of how much of a lasting impact it’s had.

After Matthew passed away, I rewatched the show, and it hit me differently. Before, I used to just pick apart my own performance, focusing on mistakes and missed opportunities. But this time, I finally let myself just enjoy it – I really saw how good it actually was, for the first time.

She went on to say that a truly exceptional talent was on display, and that none of them would likely witness something so special again. While she felt she’d done a good job, she was particularly impressed with Jennifer and Courteney, who were amazing. David and Matt were hilarious, and Matthew, she thought, was simply outstanding – better than everyone else.

Kudrow has expressed interest in a Friends reboot, something fans have discussed for years, but she believes it should feature a completely different group of actors.

In an interview with Where Is the Buzz, she said a reboot of Friends is unlikely. She clarified that it wouldn’t involve the original cast, and that the show’s creators, Marta Kauffman and David Crane, aren’t currently working on one either.

She asked if a reboot would involve recasting the roles with new actors, and said she’d be interested in seeing that happen.

“I would love to see what that would be,” she said. “That would be really good.”
