At the start of the year, fans were disappointed to learn that Season 2 would be shorter than the first season, and even shorter than most anime seasons. With only 10 episodes planned, and half of them already released, the season is progressing quickly.
So far, watching Frieren Season 2 has been really enjoyable and laid-back. But things are about to change quite a bit. As Frieren, Fern, and Stark venture further into the Northern Plateau, the challenges they face are getting much tougher and more intense. It looks like the series is heading into darker territory, leaning into the demons and thoughtful human moments that made the first season so popular.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Will Get Much Darker in the Anime’s Next Episodes
The first five episodes of Frieren Season 2 focus heavily on quieter, everyday moments. A lot of time is dedicated to building the relationships between the three main characters, particularly the growing romance between Fern and Stark, and reminding viewers of their warm and positive interactions as a group.
Episodes like the one featuring the Norm Company broadened the world of Frieren, introducing the cold, unforgiving Northern Plateau and hinting at future conflicts. Episode 2, “The Hero of the South,” offered a sneak peek at villains who would appear later in the story. The fight with the Sword Demon was short but successfully reminded viewers of the demons’ dangerous and ruthless nature, bringing that element back to the forefront of the narrative.
Starting with Episode 6 of Season 2, Frieren takes a noticeably darker turn. The show shifts from its previously calm and nostalgic pace as it begins adapting the ‘Divine Revolte Arc’ from the manga. This new arc brings widespread destruction to the Northern Plateau, and Frieren and her friends face enemies who are as cruel as the demons from Season 1. What makes these new villains particularly unsettling is their ability to exploit human feelings, causing pain that goes beyond physical wounds.
Frieren’s Intense Magical Fight Scenes are Making a Comeback

Fans of Frieren are in for a treat: the show is finally delivering more action! While Madhouse has always done a good job with action sequences, the first part of Season 2 has had relatively few and short battles. With the change in story and new enemies, viewers can expect a lot more exciting fights.
The anime is about to get much more intense as Frieren faces new enemies with powerful and unusual abilities, forcing her and her companions to overcome difficult obstacles.
The upcoming fights promise to be exciting, especially with the return of mages we first met during Season 1’s First-Class Mage Exam. One of the things fans love about Frieren is how well it develops its characters and showcases their abilities, even those outside the main group. The next arc, Divine Revolte, will give us a chance to see two mages fully demonstrate their power in battle, something we haven’t seen yet.
What Chapters of the Manga is Frieren Season 2 Adapting?
Season 2 of the show adapted chapters 61 through 70 of the original manga, finishing the “Continued Northern Travels” storyline. The sixth episode starts with chapter 71, which is the beginning of the “Divine Revolt” arc, and that arc ends with chapter 76.
If the anime continues at its current speed, the second season might end by starting the story fans have been waiting for – The Golden Land Arc, which is the longest and most exciting arc in the manga.
Even though some anime fans were disappointed by the short length of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2, it still delivers the same heartwarming, straightforward, and meaningful storytelling that made the show so popular. The series is impressively well-written, skillfully exploring darker themes despite its initially cheerful appearance.
