The anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End recently showed Fern and Stark on their first date, a moment the voice actors were eager to see animated. The second season has been very popular since its release earlier this year, focusing on the main characters and their individual adventures. These adventures, while seemingly small, have been important in bringing Fern and Stark closer together.
Fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End have been eagerly anticipating a specific moment in the anime, and it seems the voice actors were just as excited. In an interview with ComicBook before the finale, Jill Harris (Fern) and Jordan Dash Cruz (Stark) discussed their reactions to seeing the event unfold. Cruz even expressed what many viewers have been thinking: “Finally, it happened! This is what we’ve all been waiting for.”
Frieren Stars React to Fern and Stark’s Date in Season 2
Harris was surprised to see Fern and Stark go on a date, saying he doesn’t enjoy being spoiled. He found their interaction fascinating, particularly how Fern playfully challenged Stark to plan their day off. Harris noted that Fern often has trouble expressing herself directly, but it was great to see her figure out what she wanted and pursue it, even if she did so in an indirect way. Cruz agreed with this assessment.
I was so excited when I saw the Japanese version – it was exactly what I’d hoped for! That’s why I jumped at the chance to record my reaction. I think Stark and Frieren are adorable together. It’s sweet that Stark cared so much he went to Frieren for advice, admitting he didn’t know how to make her happy and wanting to get it right. We see Frieren then guiding him, pointing out what she likes. He tries to follow her advice, but it comes across as a little forced and unnatural.
How Stark Felt About That Date

Cruz explained that the character’s behavior felt out of line with who he usually is. He particularly enjoyed the scene where the character confesses he asked Frieren for help simply to ensure everyone had a good time. Seeing Fern smile, realizing the character genuinely cared enough to try, was a beautiful moment for Cruz and highlighted the lovely dynamic between them. Reflecting on recording the episode reminded Cruz of a personal, relatable experience that he believes fans will also connect with.
Cruz said the episode was a lot of fun to record. They drew on their own experiences as an 18-to-20-year-old, portraying that feeling of being new and figuring things out. They enjoyed seeing the characters connect and genuinely care for each other, which mirrors what fans love about them – and that’s why the date storyline was so popular.
Season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is now available on Crunchyroll! We want to hear your thoughts – share your opinions in the comments and join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum.
