The collectibles world could see big changes following GameStop’s offer to buy eBay. While eBay’s leaders still need to consider the offer, if it’s accepted, GameStop would become a major player in the collectibles market, especially for trading cards. Even the possibility of this deal is already creating excitement for gamers hunting for rare items. To support his bid for eBay, GameStop’s CEO is currently auctioning off more than 30 valuable pieces of gaming history.
Ryan Cohen, the CEO of GameStop, recently posted a playful message on X (formerly Twitter): “I’m selling stuff on eBay to pay for eBay,” and included a link to his eBay store. This isn’t the first time Cohen has grabbed attention with an online auction. Last year, following an incident nicknamed “Staplegate,” he famously auctioned off his underwear along with a prototype Switch 2 console. Now, he’s selling retro video games and gaming memorabilia on eBay, and each item comes with a copy of a letter he wrote to GameStop’s board about the company’s offer to buy eBay.
GameStop CEO’s Impressive Retro Gaming Collection Up for Sale

Okay, so this is crazy! Less than a day after Nathan Cohen started listing all those items on eBay as a protest, he got suspended! eBay said his activity was a risk to the community. But get this – as of right now, he’s back on! All 36 of his listings are live again, and people are already bidding like crazy on them. It’s been a wild ride to watch!
Even if the items don’t fully cover the cost of GameStop’s potential eBay purchase, Ryan Cohen’s collection includes some remarkable pieces. While a highly sought-after Pikachu Illustrator Pokémon card isn’t included, there are several professionally graded sports cards. Many items, like what appear to be Cohen’s socks, seem to be included as a joke, but the collection also features some genuinely interesting gaming memorabilia.
Fans of games like Halo have the chance to win impressive collectibles, including a nearly life-size Master Chief statue which is currently at $13,766 with 100 bids. There are also large statues based on Splinter Cell and a replica of the Vault Boy from Fallout. For those who enjoy classic games, there’s a selection of older titles like Yoshi’s Cookie, Metroid Silver, and Super Mario 2, all still in their original boxes. Many of these items have already received over 100 bids, and the auction still has almost a week left. If you’re interested in retro games and collectibles, it’s definitely worth checking out the auction page.

If you’re a big GameStop fan, you’ll find plenty of items related to the store for sale, including things like hats and mousepads. There are also some unusual items available – you can even bid on a used piece of GameStop carpet, which is currently selling for almost $1,000! Or, you could buy authentic store signs from GameStop locations that have closed down.
It’s currently unknown if GameStop will successfully buy eBay. However, Ryan Cohen appears serious about the attempt, even offering some valuable gaming collectibles on eBay as part of it. The recent email screenshot suggests eBay is definitely taking notice of GameStop’s actions.
