Gavin Casalegno Shares One Request for Summer I Turned Pretty Movie

Gavin Casalegno wants to bring his dramatic acting chops to Cousins Beach. 

Lorelai Gilmore, known for her role in The Summer I Turned Pretty, playfully mentioned she asked the writers to include one specific thing in her character Jeremiah’s story for the next film, though the movie’s release date hasn’t been announced yet.

Gavin revealed to Us Weekly on March 2nd that he’d asked for his character to have a death scene, but wasn’t sure if the show would grant his request.

Although author Jenny Han, who also wrote the original books, didn’t give Gavin a chance to showcase that acting ability in this project, he stated he still fully supports any story that pleases both the fans and Jenny herself.

Despite this, the 26-year-old stated he doesn’t know anything about the movie, which will center on Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) and her romance with Conrad (Christopher Briney), Jeremiah’s brother.

Okay, so I totally get compared to Tom Holland all the time, which is amazing, honestly. It’s just… I have zero self-control when it comes to sharing things I know! Like, seriously, if I find out anything exciting, forget keeping it a secret – it’s coming out! I’m basically a walking spoiler machine, just like Tom when it comes to Marvel stuff. I just can’t help it!

He added, “They won’t tell me anything.” 

Who actually knows details about the movie? Jenny has already shared some hints about what viewers can anticipate in the next installment, following the conclusion of the Prime Video series’ third and final season in July 2025.

Oh my gosh, you guys, the author literally told us on Today that there’s another HUGE thing coming for Belly! I nearly screamed! She said we’re definitely going to keep following her story, which means… more Belly! I’m already counting down the days! It’s going to be amazing, I just know it!

As a huge fan, I was so excited for the finale, but it looks like we might have to be a little patient! Jenny just let us know she only finished writing the script recently, so it’ll take a bit longer to get everything ready. I totally understand wanting to make it perfect, though!

During December 2025’s Power Women Summit hosted by The Wrap, Jenny revealed that she had just finished writing the script, but filming hadn’t begun yet.

The 2024 Netflix miniseries Ripley is based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 thriller, The Talented Mr. Ripley. Andrew Scott stars as Tom Ripley, a con artist in 1960s New York, who is paid by a rich businessman to convince his son, Dickie (Johnny Flynn), to come home from Europe. The series, which also features Dakota Fanning, was a critical success, earning 13 Emmy nominations in 2024, including recognition for Scott as Lead Actor and Fanning as Supporting Actress.

Casey McQuiston’s popular 2019 novel, Red, White & Royal Blue, was adapted into a successful movie on Amazon Prime in 2023. The film tells the story of a romance between the son of the U.S. President (played by Taylor Zakhar Perez) and a Prince of England (played by Nicholas Galitzine), and it received an Emmy nomination in 2024 for Outstanding Television Movie.

The second installment of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans (2024), dramatizes the downfall of Truman Capote’s friendships with a group of prominent New York socialites – his “Swans.” After publishing a revealing article in Esquire in 1975, based loosely on their lives, Capote damaged these relationships beyond repair. The FX show, inspired by Laurence Leamer’s 2021 book Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era, featured an impressive cast including Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny, Calista Flockhart, Demi Moore, Molly Ringwald, and the late Treat Williams. In 2024, the season received 10 Emmy nominations, recognizing performances by Tom Hollander, Naomi Watts, Treat Williams, and Diane Lane.

The 2023 miniseries Fellow Travelers follows the decades-long relationship between Hawkins Fuller (Matt Bomer) and Timothy Laughlin (Jonathan Bailey). It’s based on Thomas Mallon’s 2008 novel of the same name. Both Bomer and Bailey were nominated for Emmy Awards in 2024 for their performances: Bomer for Outstanding Lead Actor, and Bailey for Outstanding Supporting Actor, in a limited series or movie.

The series is based on Rebecca Godfrey’s 2005 true crime book of the same title and tells the story of the 1997 murder of 14-year-old Reena Virk, who was killed by eight classmates in Saanich, British Columbia, Canada.

The 2024 miniseries The Sympathizer is a darkly comedic historical drama adapted from Viet Thanh Nguyen’s award-winning 2015 novel. Set near the end of the Vietnam War, the HBO series follows a Vietnamese spy who escapes to the U.S. as a refugee. While in America, he continues to secretly report back to the Viet Cong, forcing him to question where his true loyalties lie. The show won Robert Downey Jr. an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie; he notably played five different characters throughout the series.

The series, which began on Hulu in 2017, is based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel and takes place in the oppressive nation of Gilead after a second American Civil War. While the show has moved beyond the original book, it continues to follow June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) and her fight for freedom. It quickly gained critical acclaim, winning an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series in its first season.

Oh my gosh, Roots! I still can’t believe it. It all started with Alex Haley’s incredible novel in 1976, and then, just a year later, it exploded onto TV! Seeing LeVar Burton bring Kunta Kinte to life on ABC was just… everything. It wasn’t just a show, it was a moment – it swept the nation and racked up nine Emmys and a Peabody! And the finale? Forget about it! It was the second most-watched series finale ever! I was obsessed, and I still am. Then, in 2016, they did a remake with Malachi Kirby and Anika Noni Rose, and while it was different, it reminded me just how powerful the original story is. I’ve watched it all countless times, and it still gets to me every single time.

This captivating series features unique characters like a mind-reading waitress and vampires with charming Southern accents. Starring Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer (who are married in real life), the show is based on Charlaine Harris’ The Southern Vampire Mysteries and takes place in a Louisiana town. Though it concluded after seven seasons in 2014, it will always be remembered – and appreciated – for introducing us to the likes of Alexander Skarsgård and Joe Manganiello.

This British series is a contemporary reimagining of the classic detective stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, it became popular internationally, even winning an Emmy Award for Best Television Film in 2016 in the U.S.

Caitriona Balfe stars as a nurse who unexpectedly journeys to the past and finds herself torn between her husband and a charming, rebellious Scottish Highlander, played by Sam Heughan.

The HBO series The Undoing stars Nicole Kidman in a suspenseful murder mystery, adapted from Jean Hanff Korelitz’s 2014 novel You Should Have Known. Oh my gosh, Pretty Little Liars! I was totally obsessed! Seriously, Sara Shepard’s books were amazing, but the show? Even better! Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, Ashley Benson, and Troian Bellisario were just everything – that group of friends always had me on the edge of my seat, constantly guessing! After seven seasons on Freeform, it was so hard to see it end, but they really tried to wrap up all the mysteries. Did they completely satisfy everyone? Honestly, that’s a debate for the ages, but I was hooked the whole time!

The SyFy series The Magicians brings the beloved books by Lev Grossman to life, showing what it’s like to be a student at the magical Brakebills University. These characters deal with normal college issues—complicated relationships, addiction—but with the added pressure of learning magic. As if college wasn’t hard enough! Over five seasons, the stakes got incredibly high, often requiring the characters to save the entire multiverse or magic itself. But through it all, the show consistently delivered fantastic musical episodes.

The popular CW series owed a lot of its success to its attractive cast, including Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Kat Graham, and Ian Somerhalder. The show, which ran for eight seasons and concluded in 2017, brought the characters from L.J. Smith’s original book series to life for fans.
