The first trailer for Godzilla Minus One was released earlier this week, offering fans a thrilling preview of the monster’s highly anticipated return. Following the success of Godzilla Minus One – the only film in the kaiju series to win an Academy Award – excitement has been building for this new installment. Despite being less than a minute long, the trailer sparked enough interest for egmr.ru to identify seven key surprises. The movie is set to hit theaters worldwide this November.

7.) Godzilla in The U.S.A.

One of the biggest surprises from Godzilla Minus One is that Godzilla is heading to the United States. While the original film briefly mentioned the U.S. – mainly focusing on America’s reluctance to help Japan after World War II – Japan was the main target of Godzilla’s anger. This time, Godzilla seems to be bringing his destruction westward, specifically to New York City. The film clearly establishes the threat he poses, showing him towering over the Statue of Liberty – emphasizing just how terrifying this version of the monster is.
6.) Noriko Oishi Returns

Ryunosuke Kamiki is reprising his role in Godzilla Minus One, and the new trailer introduces Minami Hamabe as Noriko Oishi, the film’s female lead. Noriko is remembered from the original movie as the woman who found love with Koichi, a veteran returning to postwar Japan. She survived a Godzilla attack, but the ending suggested something wasn’t quite right with her. Now, as she cares for her adopted daughter, it will be fascinating to see how Noriko’s story unfolds in Godzilla Minus One when it’s released later this year.
5.) Godzilla’s Regeneration is a Success

At the end of Godzilla Minus One, Godzilla was seemingly defeated – blown apart by the Japanese military, with fragments of his body sinking into the ocean. Despite this complete destruction, he managed to regenerate over two years, highlighting his incredible healing power. This ability means humanity can’t rely on traditional attacks to stop him. They’ll need to find new and creative solutions, but even then, any victory will likely only be temporary.
4.) The Time Frame of Godzilla Minus Zero

The new Godzilla film, Godzilla Minus Zero, won’t start right after the previous movie. Instead, it’s set two years after Godzilla first attacked and caused widespread destruction. Even though some time has passed, Japan is still struggling to recover. The characters Koichi, Noriko, and Akiko will be back, and it will be fascinating to see how their lives have changed since the first attack. As Japan continues to rebuild, it’s unclear if the country will ever be truly prepared for Godzilla’s return.
3.) Godzilla is Much Bigger in Minus One
The Godzilla we see in the trailer for the new movie is significantly larger than the one from Godzilla Minus One. He’s massive, dwarfing the Statue of Liberty as he rises from the ocean. While the previous Godzilla was around 160 feet tall, this new version completely overshadows the iconic statue. This also suggests that Godzilla doesn’t simply return to the same size after being defeated – he’s getting bigger each time, which could create even bigger problems for humanity in the future.
2.) Godzilla’s Energy is Doing Something Strange

Most of the excitement about the new trailer focuses on returning characters and Godzilla’s arrival in America, but some smaller details have been overlooked. In one scene set in the sky, a pilot sees what looks like Godzilla’s energy lifting buildings and other objects into the air. This suggests humanity will face a completely new challenge. Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, this swirling debris hints that Godzilla might have gained new powers with his return.
1.) The United States Is Up To Something

The trailer for the new Godzilla movie starts with a conversation revealing a failed mission. The narration mentions needing to cancel a “third drop,” suggesting a significant operation has gone wrong. Director Takashi Yamazaki has previously expressed interest in adding another monster to the story, and this failure could be the setup for introducing a new creature to fight Godzilla, potentially something mechanical like Jet Jaguar or Mechagodzilla, as seen in Godzilla Minus Zero. The trailer shows Godzilla heading towards New York City, raising the question of whether America will get its own monster to contend with.
