Godzilla & the Monsterverse’s 10 Most Dangerous Titans, Ranked

The MonsterVerse successfully revived Godzilla and King Kong, launching a franchise that now includes five movies and two TV series centered around these iconic creatures. It began with the 2014 Godzilla film, which demonstrated that American filmmakers could create a compelling version of the giant monster – a welcome improvement after the poorly received 1998 film. This success paved the way for a King Kong movie, followed by team-up films like Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and several Godzilla vs. Kong adventures. With the addition of the Skull Island and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters TV shows, the MonsterVerse has expanded into a thriving world filled with numerous Titans.

There are a lot of powerful monsters, but here’s a ranking of the most dangerous Titans, considering their strength, how many creatures they’ve defeated, what they’ve shown in films and TV, their direct battles, and how much they threaten the environment. Only one Titan proved strong enough to surpass Godzilla as the most powerful creature in the MonsterVerse.

10) The MUTOs – Godzilla (2014), King of the Monsters (2019)

As a huge cinema fan, I remember being really impressed with the MUTOs when they first showed up in Godzilla. These massive creatures were the main villains, and the backstory was fascinating – they basically hatched from spores on another Titan called Dagon. One ended up in Japan, the other in Nevada, and they were incredibly powerful because they fed on radiation. That meant places like mines and nuclear plants were ideal spots for them to breed! Honestly, they raised the stakes for all the Titans that came after. Godzilla did manage to take them both down in that first film, establishing himself as the alpha. Later, in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, we saw another MUTO, but it didn’t last long as a threat – it eventually just submitted to Godzilla after initially siding with King Ghidorah.

9) Tiamat – Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)

Tiamat is a massive Titan that first appeared in the 2024 film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. In the movie, Godzilla attacked her icy home. Though she was briefly mentioned by name in 2019’s King of the Monsters and first fully appeared in the 2021 graphic novel Godzilla Dominion, Tiamat is an 847-foot-long creature with facial tendrils that detect electromagnetic energy. Despite being a powerful threat, she was ultimately defeated by Godzilla, who absorbed her cosmic energy to gain an advantage against the Skar King.

8) Skull Devil – Kong: Skull Island (2017)

I was absolutely terrified by the Skull Devil in Kong: Skull Island! She was the biggest, strongest of the Skullcrawlers, truly a terrifying predator, and became Kong’s main enemy in that movie. At 95 feet tall, she was almost as huge as Kong himself, and clearly the leader of all the Skullcrawlers on the island. It’s hard to overstate how dangerous she was – these creatures nearly wiped out Kong’s entire species, leaving him as the last one standing to defend the island. The fight where Kong finally defeated her was incredible. He used a ship’s propeller as a weapon, slicing her open and ending her threat. That victory wasn’t just a win for Kong, it cemented his role as the island’s protector in the eyes of everyone living there.

7) Rodan – Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

Rodan first appeared in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and is a well-known Titan from the original Japanese Godzilla films. In the MonsterVerse, he rose from a volcano on Isla de Mara in Mexico and quickly became a dangerous foe. His skin is covered in rough, volcanic material, allowing him to withstand extreme heat. The force of his wings creates shockwaves capable of destroying cities. Despite his power, Rodan ultimately answered to King Ghidorah, was defeated by Mothra, and then became a follower of Godzilla. While Mothra did defeat Rodan, she wasn’t included on this list because she generally acts as a protector, making her different—and less dangerous—than the other Titans.

6) Skar King – Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)

In Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the Skar King served as the primary antagonist. He’s a massive, red-haired ape Titan who leads a tribe of Great Apes within the depths of Hollow Earth. His main weapon is called the Whipslash, crafted from the spine of a Warbat and powered by a blue crystal taken from Shimo. This crystal allows him to control Shimo by causing her pain. Unlike Kong, who defends, the Skar King previously attempted to take over the surface world, even causing an Ice Age before Godzilla defeated him. Ultimately, it required the combined strength of Godzilla and Kong to stop him, followed by Shimo freezing him so Kong could finally destroy him once she was free from his influence.

5) Mechagodzilla – Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)

Mechagodzilla is a giant, robotic weapon created by Apex Cybernetics to defeat Godzilla and establish human dominance. Unfortunately, the company used the brain of King Ghidorah in its creation, which allowed the monstrous creature to take control. Mechagodzilla then turned on Apex, destroying the facility, and began attacking the world. The robot caused massive destruction in Hong Kong, overpowering Godzilla until Kong intervened. Ultimately, Godzilla and Kong had to work together, combining Godzilla’s atomic breath with Kong’s axe, to finally defeat the powerful machine.

4) Shimo – Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)

Shimo was a massive, reptile-like Titan who lived inside the Earth and could control her body temperature. This allowed her to instantly freeze anything around her – the ground, plants, and water. Her most powerful attack, a freezing blast from her mouth, could create conditions similar to an ice age. She was the largest Titan in the MonsterVerse, even bigger than King Ghidorah. However, she was forced to obey the Skar King, who used a special weapon called Whipslash to control her. Once Kong and Godzilla freed her, Shimo joined their side, and she ultimately froze the Skar King completely, allowing Kong to finish him off with his axe.

3) Kong

Kong first appeared in the MonsterVerse in the 2017 film Kong: Skull Island, which was set years before the events of Godzilla. The movie takes place in 1973 and shows a younger Kong defending humans on Skull Island from creatures called Skullcrawlers. He defeated the Skull Devil in an epic battle. Kong wields a powerful battle axe crafted from the dorsal plate of an ancient, Godzilla-like Titan – an axe that can absorb and release atomic energy. He’s used it to defeat Skar King and assist Godzilla in his fight against Mechagodzilla. Notably, Kong is the only Titan in the MonsterVerse to ever fight Godzilla to a draw.

2) Godzilla

The battle between Godzilla and Kong ended without a clear winner, leaving it uncertain who would win in a final showdown. Despite this, Godzilla is widely considered the most powerful monster, as many others have either lost to him, been defeated by him, or become his allies. His famous atomic breath is incredibly powerful, functioning on a bio-nuclear scale. He’s defeated major threats like the MUTOs, Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla, and Tiamat, and played a key role in stopping the Skar King. Twice, he’s established himself as the dominant Titan – once in 2019 after defeating Ghidorah, and again in 2024 after defeating the Skar King. Essentially, Godzilla is the standard by which the strength and danger of all other Titans are measured, based on how close they came to defeating him.

1) King Ghidorah – Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

While Godzilla ultimately defeated King Ghidorah, Ghidorah remains the most dangerous foe in the MonsterVerse. This alien Titan, nicknamed “Monster Zero” by Monarch, has three heads, each with its own unique personality and fighting style. He can fire powerful gravity beams from each head and even control the weather as he flies. Ghidorah is the only monster to have actually beaten Godzilla in a direct fight. He stayed on top until Godzilla gained a massive power boost from a nuclear reactor and Mothra. Even after being defeated, Ghidorah wasn’t truly gone – one of his heads was used to power Mechagodzilla, continuing to pose a threat.
