Hayden observed that her position on set quickly shifted – she went from being a relatively minor player to a strong contender, almost challenging Connie for the lead role. This change made her feel very uneasy.

Okay, so I was just a kid, twenty-three, and Connie was… Connie! She was already a legend, with three Emmy nods under her belt. It felt like her moment, and honestly, it was amazing watching her. But I was so worried! I didn’t want her to think I, not just my character, was trying to steal the spotlight. I was a total newbie and she was already a star, and I just wanted to support her, not compete!

Hayden, now 36, explained that whenever she and Connie filmed a scene where their characters both reached for a microphone, she would intentionally place her hand under Connie’s as a gesture of peace and respect.

Hayden admitted he was aware of something, though he wasn’t sure if the other person had picked up on it. He explained he didn’t want to overstep or cause any issues with Rayna James or Connie Britton.

And now, the prospect of her own daughter becoming an actress has become “nail-biter.”
