This new show builds on the world of the original comedy in a surprising way. While the series has already explored its past with two successful prequel spinoffs, this marks the first time it’s looking towards the future with a sequel spinoff.
The highly anticipated series now has a confirmed release date: July 23rd. Fans already knew it was coming this summer, and HBO Max just released a first look teaser trailer at their recent presentation. You can watch the teaser below.
What Happens in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe?
The new show will feature a return of familiar faces, including Kevin Sussman as Stuart Bloom, the comic book store owner from the original series. He’ll be joined by Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie, reprising their roles as Denise, Bert, and Barry Kripke. Ryan Cartwright and Josh Brener will also appear as guests in their roles as Kyle and Trevor.
A new threat emerges when someone accidentally triggers a multiversal catastrophe after damaging a device created by Sheldon and Leonard. Stuart, with help from his girlfriend Denise, a geologist friend named Bert, and the often-difficult physicist Barry Kripke, must now try to fix reality and prevent total destruction.
The new series will feature familiar faces from The Big Bang Theory, but these are alternate versions of the characters. And, as the title suggests, their arrival doesn’t lead to happy reunions.
With “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe,” the popular “Big Bang Theory” expands to HBO Max, marking a first for the franchise. While originally broadcast on CBS, the show is produced by Warner Bros. Television, who own the rights. Creator of “The Big Bang Theory,” Chuck Lorre, teamed up with Zak Penn and Bill Prady to co-create, write, and executive produce this new spinoff, through his production company, Chuck Lorre Productions.
The Big Bang Theory Keeps Expanding
Okay, so the first teaser for this new spin-off is wild. It’s seriously unlike anything we’ve seen from the original show or any of the other spin-offs – it’s just…different. It’s not a comedy like the others at all; they’ve gone full sci-fi with an alternate universe storyline. And get this – it’s not even the same Stuart we know and love! They’re saying it’s ‘you from another stream of reality,’ which is a really cool and strange concept. Honestly, it’s totally thrown me for a loop, but I’m intrigued!
The popular sitcom lasted for 12 seasons and launched two spin-off shows. The first, Young Sheldon, explored the childhood of Jim Parsons’ character, Sheldon Cooper, and was set in the 1980s. After seven seasons, a second spin-off series premiered and is currently in its second season, with the season finale scheduled to air on May 21st.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe premieres on HBO Max on July 23.
