HBO Max subscribers don’t have much time left to watch a truly great film. While the streaming service has a lot of popular and well-regarded movies from recent years – including critically acclaimed titles like Portrait of a Lady on Fire and huge hits like Barbie – one all-time classic will soon be leaving the platform as October ends.
If you’re an HBO Max subscriber and want to watch Parasite, you need to do so soon! Bong Joon Ho’s critically acclaimed Best Picture winner will no longer be available on the streaming service after October 31st. The 2019 South Korean thriller, which was a huge success with a $258.1 million worldwide gross from an $11.4 million budget, tells the story of a struggling family who cleverly inserts themselves into the lives of a wealthy family. The film stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, Park So-dam, Jang Hye-jin, Park Myung-hoon, and Lee Jung-eun.
Parasite Is a Modern Masterpiece
Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is widely considered a masterpiece, ranking among the greatest films ever made. It brilliantly combines humor, suspense, and heartbreaking drama to offer a thought-provoking look at the divide between social classes. The film keeps you guessing with its unpredictable plot and relies heavily on visual elements – like set design and lighting – to enhance the storytelling and create a specific mood. It’s also a masterclass in building tension, supported by powerful acting throughout.
The film is critically acclaimed, boasting a 99% score from critics and a 90% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s considered both “Certified Fresh” and “Verified Hot” on the site. It achieved historic success at the 92nd Academy Awards, becoming the first film not originally made in English to win Best Picture, along with awards for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film. Even years later, it’s still celebrated as a modern classic and consistently appears on lists of the greatest films ever made.
Where to Stream Parasite After It Leaves HBO Max
Even though Parasite is leaving HBO Max on October 31st, you’ll still be able to stream it on other popular services. It’s currently on Netflix, but we don’t yet know what shows and movies Netflix will remove in November. Parasite might also end up on a different streaming service. If you prefer, you can also rent or buy the film online.
If you’re an HBO Max subscriber looking for something new to watch now that Parasite is gone, you’ll have plenty of choices. Throughout October, the platform is adding lots of movies, including favorites like 50 First Dates, Beetlejuice, the original Gremlins from 1984, and the recent hit Talk To Me, plus many more.
