HBO Max’s show has been a huge hit, with almost everyone – critics and viewers alike – loving its two seasons. Interestingly, it seems doctors are also fans, with many saying one of the characters feels remarkably realistic.
Surgeon Dr. David Shapiro, in a recent interview, praised Katherine LaNasa’s portrayal of Dana on The Pitt. He said LaNasa delivers the most realistic depiction of an experienced emergency room nurse he’s ever witnessed in any movie or TV show. Dr. Shapiro, who has worked alongside many nurses, believes LaNasa’s performance is incredibly authentic and deserves every acting award imaginable.
There Are Real Danas in Hospitals Everywhere
Dr. Shapiro praised the character of Dana, saying she’s the most realistic portrayal of an experienced ER nurse he’s ever seen. He explained that he knows around fifteen nurses like Dana in real life, who face the same challenges, including being physically assaulted by patients.
The surgeon went on to say that she’s incredibly talented and deserves all the recognition she can get. He instructed them to tell anyone who questions her ambition that he thinks those people are completely wrong and should just give up arguing – that’s just how things are.
The show The Pitt has received several prestigious awards, including significant wins for actress Peri LaNasa. Last year, she earned a Primetime Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and her co-star, Noah Wyle, won the Emmy for Lead Actor. The Pitt itself was also recognized as Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmys. LaNasa’s talent was further celebrated with a Best Supporting Actress award from the Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

Created by R. Scott Gemmill, The Pitt is set in the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Each season unfolds in real-time over a single 24-hour period, with each episode representing one hour within that timeframe. The second season increased the tension by taking place during the busy 4th of July holiday weekend. The show stars Catalina LaNasa, Scott Wyle, and a talented ensemble cast including Patrick Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, and Sepideh Moafi.
Both seasons of the show have been outstanding, thanks to strong writing and acting. Season 1 received a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Season 2 was even better, scoring an impressive 99%. Good news for fans – even though Season 2 is still airing, the show has already been renewed for a third season!
