How Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr Successfully Co-Parent

Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, and Miranda Kerr have a consistently harmonious co-parenting relationship when it comes to their children.

With Flynn, his 15-year-old son from his marriage to Kerr, and Daisy, his 5-year-old daughter with Perry, they have a remarkably close bond and seem perfectly in tune with each other.

Kora Organics founder Kerr emphasized the importance of always prioritizing a child’s well-being, telling TopMob News at an Earth Day event that the key question to ask is, ‘Is this truly in the child’s best interest?’

She explained that she and Bloom—who separated in 2013 after three years of marriage—have always approached things with Flynn this way, and it’s helped them handle many difficult situations.

Divorce and co-parenting always have their challenges, but from the beginning of Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s relationship in 2016, Kerr recognized that Perry had a positive influence on Bloom and their family.

In a 2021 interview on the Ladies First With Laura Brown podcast, Kerr mentioned that she and Bloom had both found partners who were a good match for them, which she called “incredible.”

The actress shared that she and Evan Spiegel, her husband of almost nine years, have a great relationship, just like her and her own partner. She feels very fortunate for this dynamic and wouldn’t want it any other way.

From the beginning, quite simply, Kerr met a girl and she liked it.

It felt like we immediately connected, as if we’d known each other for years,” the Sydney native said about the 41-year-old musician. “Ever since Orlando and I split up, we’ve been very close and supportive friends. I’ve always wished him well, and he’s always wanted the same for me.

Together, the foursome was truly livin’ a teenage dream.

I’ve always been so touched by how close Kate and Matthew are. Kate shared on Candace Parker’s podcast back in 2021 that they truly share everything – holidays, big life moments, everything. She was so open about how much she loves him, even saying she loves Matthew more than Flynn’s father. It really showed me how deeply connected they are!

By then, the model – who is also a mother to Hart, 7, Myles, 6, and Pierre, 2, with her ex-husband Spiegel – had already developed a good relationship with him.

The couple, after six years together, realized they weren’t helping each other grow, as the 43-year-old explained on the We Need to Talk podcast in February. However, they made a key agreement when they decided to split up: they would always prioritize the well-being of their son, Flynn.

They just needed to adjust their own proverbial oxygen masks before moving forward.

Kerr explained that they did a lot of inner work, concentrating on forgiving each other and themselves, and finding peace in a difficult situation. She emphasized that even though the romantic relationship ended, they would always be co-parents, connected through their child for life.

She was so determined to act perfectly that Kerr didn’t realize she was maybe trying too hard to smooth things over.

After Orlando and I split up, I tended to be very accommodating and eager to make him happy,” she explained on the podcast. “If Orlando suddenly changed his plans – and he’d admit this himself – I always went along with it.

Then she linked up with Snapchat co-creator Spiegel and was able to see the bigger picture.

Kerr shared that her husband respects her personal limits. Because of this, when Bloom’s work schedule shifts, she feels comfortable saying, ‘I understand your plans changed, but we already made plans based on our original agreement.’

She’s figured out how to do it without provoking Johnny Depp into a disagreement.

Things have been quiet since he and Perry announced their breakup last summer, with no major developments or drama.

According to a spokesperson, the former couple plans to continue co-parenting their daughter and presenting a united family front. Their main focus remains raising their daughter with love, stability, and respect for each other.

They exemplified this behavior when, shortly after separating, they took their family on a trip to Italy and, last December, included a stop in London to see Paddington: The Musical with Flynn and Daisy.

Bloom even appeared to playfully acknowledge Perry’s new relationship with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. He certainly seemed amused when the satirical website The Onion published a fake story about a connection between him and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

No matter what, he and Perry are electing to love each other as a family, unconditionally.

During an appearance on Today last September to discuss his film The Cut, Bloom confidently stated, “We’re going to do great. It’s all about positivity.”

After all, just because it’s over, doesn’t mean it’s really over.

I recently spent time with both Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom,” Kerr shared on the Kyle and Jackie-O Show. “We were together over the weekend, and we took a picture. Katy actually sent me the photo—it was a funny shot of Orlando with both of his former wives on either side of him.”

Dare we say you could see them shine from a mile?

“We all had such a big smile on our faces,” detailed Kerr. “You know we’re one big happy family.”

They aren’t the only exes who are successfully co-parenting. Here’s what other amicable former couples have shared about making it work.

Despite ending their romantic relationship in 2023, the Grammy-winning artist and their Swedish-Syrian ex-partner continue to work together to raise their children, Lucia and Renn.

Jwan shared with Attitude in September 2025 that they have a truly great relationship with their ex-partner. They’ve created a peaceful and stable co-parenting arrangement, living just ten minutes apart and staying in touch every other day. Their children are their top priority, and they both love them very much.

He described it as more than just an experience—it was a fulfilling way of life. He said it had been a truly wonderful journey.

Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green, parents to Noah, Bodhi, and Journey, prioritize their children’s well-being as they navigate co-parenting. Brian emphasizes that focusing on the kids’ experience is the most important thing, acknowledging that a breakup will inevitably impact them, but the way it impacts them is within their control. He suggests choosing your battles, recognizing that disagreements that led to separation won’t magically disappear when co-parenting. It’s about shifting the focus from personal feelings to what’s best for the children.

Megan agrees, stressing the importance of never speaking negatively about the other parent, even subtly. She believes that accepting and loving their father is crucial because he’s an integral part of their children’s identity – in their DNA and their very being. She makes a conscious effort to maintain positive energy around her kids, ensuring she doesn’t reject a part of them by rejecting their father.

As a fan, I’m so happy to see how well Josh Duhamel and Fergie are handling things as co-parents! Josh recently shared on The Jess Cagle Show just how amazing Fergie is, and how welcoming she’s been to his wife, Audra Mari. He said she genuinely embraced Audra, and he’s so grateful for that – things could have been so much harder!

He also revealed that Fergie was thrilled when they announced they were expecting their son, Shepherd, who arrived in January 2024. Shepherd joined big brother Axl, who Josh shares with Fergie. It’s just heartwarming to hear Josh say that Fergie is truly excited for them both and has nothing but love for Audra. Considering their divorce was finalized in 2019 after a separation in 2017, it’s incredible they’ve created such a civil and supportive co-parenting relationship. It’s a really positive situation, and I’m glad they’re making it work so well for everyone involved.

Irina Shayk, who has a daughter named Lea with her ex-partner Bradley Cooper, doesn’t like the label “co-parenting.” In a 2021 interview with ELLE, she explained that when she’s with Lea, she’s fully a mother, and when Lea is with Bradley, he’s fully her father. She believes parenting is simply parenting, regardless of the parents’ relationship status.

Irina and Bradley ended their four-year relationship in 2019, but they’ve remained friendly. Despite their busy lives, they continue to take family vacations, spend time together in New York, and support each other. Irina told the magazine in 2023 that Bradley is “the best father Lea and I could dream of,” and that their successful arrangement is due to their commitment to making it work.

As Mariah Carey has said, building a successful relationship takes time, and that includes finding a good co-parenting routine. Nick Cannon, who shares twins Moroccan and Monroe with Carey, says they’ve achieved that.

Cannon described their relationship as a strong friendship, noting that Carey has taught him a lot and that’s what family is all about. Carey also seems pleased with how well they’ve navigated co-parenting since their divorce in 2014.

She told Harper’s Bazaar that her children enjoy spending time with both parents, and she strives to be fair to them, understanding the challenges of growing up with divorced parents.

In addition to Moroccan and Monroe, Nick Cannon has several other children: Zion and Mixolydian, Zillion Heir and Beautiful Zeppelin with Abby De La Rosa; Golden “Sagon,” Powerful Queen and Rise Messiah with Brittany Bell; Legendary Love with Bre Tiesi; Onyx Ice with LaNisha Cole; and Halo Marie and the late Zen with Alyssa Scott.

It’s impossible to talk about amicable breakups without mentioning Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin. The Oscar-winning actress and the Coldplay singer famously coined the term “consciously uncoupling” when they announced their separation in 2014.

On The Drew Barrymore Show in 2020, Gwyneth explained that prioritizing their children, Apple and Moses, was the key. “It’s harder than it looks,” she said. “Some days you really don’t want to be with the person you’re divorcing. But if you’re committed to family dinner, you do it. You take a deep breath, make eye contact, remember your commitment, smile, hug, and even make a joke—just recommit to building this new relationship.”

The Goop founder emphasized that she and Martin will always remain a family. “That’s how it will be forever,” she said. “We have good days and bad days, but we’re working towards unity and love, and what’s best for the kids. Just because you break up doesn’t mean you have to stop loving the qualities you once admired in that person.”

Following their divorce in 2022, Gisele BĂŒndchen and Tom Brady have been navigating the challenges of co-parenting. Gisele acknowledged it hasn’t always been easy, telling Robin Roberts in a 2024 interview that her and Tom’s children, Benjamin and Vivian, are clever and test boundaries, requiring adaptable parenting. She emphasized focusing on what she can control. Gisele believes a balance of time with both parents is beneficial, allowing the kids to experience and learn from two different perspectives. Tom echoed this sentiment, stating that he and Gisele are committed to raising all their children – including Jack, his son with Bridget Moynahan – with love, kindness, empathy, and strong values, even as childhood looks different today than it did when they were growing up.

Having played a superhero, Ben Affleck knows one when he sees one IRL. And he includes ex-wife Jennifer Garner—with whom he shares kids Violet, Seraphina and Samuel—in that league.

“Jen is a superhero mom,” the Oscar winner—whose divorce from the 13 Going on 30 star was announced in 2015 and finalized three years later—told TopMob News in 2016. “She’s an amazing mother, and I’m really lucky to have her as a partner to co-parent these kids with. We try our best, we put them first and that’s what we do.”

Jennifer Lopez, who wed her fiancĂ© from the aughts Ben in 2022 before filing for divorce two years later, agreed—previously telling Vogue Jennifer is “an amazing co-parent,” and that she and Ben “work really well together.”

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik separated in 2021, but they’ve successfully continued to co-parent their daughter, Khai. Zayn shared in a 2023 interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast that they have a strong relationship focused on Khai’s well-being, noting that “it’s going well.” Gigi told The Sunday Times that prioritizing a child’s happiness is key for co-parents, as you’ll have a lifelong connection with the other parent. She also expressed her happiness that Khai is able to spend time with both of them.

Khloe Kardashian is continuing to co-parent with her ex, Tristan Thompson, despite past difficulties. She admits it’s challenging to maintain a positive relationship with him, especially considering his history of infidelity, but she’s committed to doing so for their children, True and Tatum.

In an interview with tmrw in January 2024, Khloe explained that it’s hard to be friendly with someone you’re angry at, particularly in front of their kids. She’s learned to manage her emotions and avoid impulsive reactions she might later regret, prioritizing being a kind person.

Ultimately, Khloe wants her children to have a strong bond with Tristan, who also has a son, Prince, with Jordan Craig, and another son, Theo, with Maralee Nichols. She believes that if a father wants to be involved in his children’s lives, she shouldn’t stand in the way.

Although Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr separated in 2013, they continue to successfully co-parent their son, Flynn. Their blended family also includes Orlando’s current partner, Katy Perry, and Miranda’s husband, Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snapchat. Miranda has spoken warmly about her relationship with Katy, expressing her happiness that Orlando has found love. She emphasizes that the most important thing is for Flynn to have happy parents. Despite busy schedules and growing families—Orlando and Katy now have a daughter, Daisy Dove, and Miranda and Evan share three sons, Hart, Myles, and Pierre—they all make an effort to come together for important occasions. Miranda explained that they prioritize Flynn’s well-being and are always willing to compromise to create the best possible family dynamic.

Kate Hudson believes it’s important to maintain good relationships with her exes, Chris Robinson and Matt Bellamy, unlike some who let those bonds fade. She explained to The Sunday Times in 2022 that she and Chris simply check in with each other periodically, especially as they co-parent their son, Ryder. She also praised Matt, father to her son Bingham, as a “wonderful” co-parent. Kate feels that love doesn’t disappear just because a romantic relationship ends, and a different kind of love – focused on their child – can still thrive. Kate also shares daughter Rani with her fiancĂ©, Danny Fujikawa. While her family structure might not be traditional, she feels incredibly strong and successful, creating a solid unit with her three children and their fathers.

It can be challenging for divorced parents to get along, but Anna Faris says her relationship with her ex-husband Chris Pratt, his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger, and their children is improving. Faris, who shares a son named Jack with Pratt, told People magazine in 2022 that everyone is getting closer and she really appreciates it. She feels both families are protective of each other and values their support.

Faris described Katherine as “awesome” and praised her for being a great presence in Jack’s life. She admires how Katherine handles everything, including raising her own children, Lyla, Eloise, and Ford, alongside Jack.

Now married to Michael Barrett, Faris says things feel much more peaceful as time has passed. She’s happy with how the blended family is working and relieved to have moved past any lingering negativity.

It’s helpful when co-parents agree, and Mel B says it wasn’t easy for her and Eddie Murphy to build that kind of connection.

Mel B, of the Spice Girls, recently shared that past trauma made it difficult to build a strong relationship with Eddie Murphy. Speaking to Us Weekly in May 2025, she explained it took time and effort, but she was eventually able to do so. Despite past challenges, Mel B says their friendship has actually grown stronger in recent years. Their teenage daughter, Angel, spends time with Murphy, and they even take vacations together. Mel B praised Murphy as a dedicated father to his ten children.

Even though the TV show The O.C. was known for its drama, Rachel Bilson and her ex, Hayden Christensen, have a positive co-parenting relationship. Bilson told People magazine in 2024 that things are going well and their daughter, Briar Rose, is thriving with lots of support.
