How Kourtney Kardashian Helped Husband Travis Barker Heal Past Trauma

Travis Barker is recognizing Kourtney Kardashian’s impact on his life. 

Travis Barker, the Blink-182 drummer who remarkably survived a serious plane crash in 2008 and then flew again for the first time in 2021, has spoken about how Kourtney Kardashian has helped him cope with his most difficult experiences.

Travis Barker shared that falling in love with his wife gave him a renewed sense of hope and the courage to start flying again. He told TopMob News at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of his documentary, Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear, that her belief in him inspired him, and now even his kids are pilots. He described the situation as ‘insane’ in the best way.

Travis Barker, who shares children Alabama, 20, and Landon, 22, with ex-wife Shanna Moakler, and a 2-year-old son named Rocky Thirteen with Kardashian, credits his kids for helping him reach where he is now.

“The power of love is amazing,” he said. “My kids were my strength from the time they existed.”

In 2008, a plane carrying Barker and his friends Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein, Chris Baker, and Charles Still crashed shortly after takeoff due to a tire failure. Sadly, Chris Baker, Charles Still, and both pilots died in the accident.

Despite managing to get out of the plane with AM, Barker suffered severe burns covering much of his body. Since the accident, the musician—who used to prefer traveling by bus or boat—has been candid about recovering from the emotional trauma of the crash.

In a 2021 interview with Men’s Health, he described a very difficult time in his life. He said he felt deeply depressed – so much so that leaving the house was impossible, and even seeing a plane overhead filled him with dread and a sense of impending disaster.

After years of therapy, he’s found those anxious thoughts have become much less intense. In 2021, he even felt comfortable enough to take his first flight since the accident, traveling with Kourtney Kardashian and her three children – Mason (16), Penelope (13), and Reign (11) – whom she shares with her ex, Scott Disick.

He said things have improved as he’s had more distance from the event. When he was immediately after the incident, he felt overwhelmed by the trauma – the feeling of trying to escape, the crash, the burns, and desperately trying to save his friends from the burning plane. Now, with time, he feels further removed from those negative experiences.

He said that experience stayed with him for a long time. When he was still dealing with it, it constantly occupied his thoughts. Now, after many years, it’s becoming easier, and he often goes days without even thinking about it.
