Peter Hoar, who directed episodes of HBO’s acclaimed series The Last of Us and the iconic Doctor Who, and Matthew Bouch, an executive from Netflix’s compelling mystery A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder, are bringing back a science fiction show that originally ended almost 50 years ago. With such a talented team involved, the revival is expected to be exceptional.
Deadline reports that a duo has launched Multitude Productions, a new production company focused on genre films and television. Their first project? A reboot of the classic British sci-fi series, Blake’s 7. The original show, a politically charged space drama, followed a group of criminals and rebels fighting against a powerful, oppressive government called the Terran Federation from their advanced spaceship. Creator James Hoar hopes the reboot will air on the BBC, where the original series was broadcast. He explains that Blake’s 7 became legendary because it unexpectedly landed in a time slot and received a budget originally meant for a standard police procedural like Softly, Softly, limiting production to a single main set and minimal location filming.
Why Blake’s 7?

Bouch explains his enthusiasm for reviving Blake’s 7 stems from both personal passion and a perceived opportunity in the UK market. With the decline of Doctor Who, he believes there’s a demand for British science fiction and fantasy. Looking back on his childhood, he remembers a wealth of similar programming like Blake’s 7 and the Narnia adaptations. His team is now exploring how to combine that classic British, low-budget approach with international appeal, especially given the current trend towards more economical production in markets like the U.S. They’re aiming to create content that’s both creatively satisfying and financially viable.
Though the beloved sci-fi film is a promising beginning for Multitude Productions, it’s just one of several projects the new studio is developing. They’re also planning to adapt Patrick Carman’s Skeleton Creek book series—described as a British take on Stranger Things with a touch of Skins—along with Rikako Akiyoshi’s The Dark Maidens and The Search for the Dice Man.
